It’s the great Coachella debate: which weekend is better? Because Coachella has two weekends for maximal festival party times, last week, we saw everything we expected from festivalgoers from floral crowns to 90s throwback hairstyles and this weekend, it’s a similar story with different dates.

Toronto-based photographer, Dana Richardson Blewett, worked her way through the festival grounds at Coachella 2013, to capture the scene as people danced to Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Major Lazer and Wu-Tang Clan in short-shorts, prints, and crocheted pieces.

We’re not ones to turn down a celebration, especially when it’s in honour of a cool Canadian brand. That’s why we’re currently all over Naked & Famous’s capsule collection designed for its five-year anniversary in the denim biz.

Sure, the pieces are men’s but we’re always up for the challenge of appropriating menswear for ourselves and if you’re a guy looking for a summer closet update, this is exactly what you need.

Since 2009, the Canadian brand has specialized in high-quality Japanese raw denim and now, designer Brandon Svarc has teamed up with Toronto denim mecca Over the Rainbow—located in Yorkville—to create an exclusive 10-piece capsule collection.

MTV Movie Awards 2013: Our 6 picks for best dressed on the red carpet

MTV Movie Awards 2013 Red Carpet

See the MTV Movie Awards red carpet photos »

Last night, some of our favourite young starlets and celebrities hit the red carpet for the MTV Movie Awards where they handed out and were awarded 2013’s batch of golden popcorn statues for their important work as “best villain” and “best kiss.”

As with most red carpets that are skewed towards teens, there were some major misses by so many “stars” we have never actually heard of, but we will skip those in favour of those who hit it out of the park. MTV’s House of Style host Karlie Kloss looked like a smokeshow in a two-piece Cushnie and Ochs ensemble. The white-hot bodycon ensemble was finished off with a pair of Gucci heels. To boot, her new-to-2013 cropped bob was looking superb with an accentuated part. Zoe Saldana also showed off some skin in a Givenchy Fall 2013 (hell yes to friends in high places) look that matched florals with sheer polka dots and a thigh-high slit.

Chloe Grace Moretz was a denim dream in a patchwork Louis Vuitton dress and studded T-strap heels. She kept her beauty on the simple and age-appropriate side with a messy waterfall of curls and fresh faced skin. On the complete flip side, simple was not the name of the game for Selena Gomez who wore an embellished Julien Macdonald mini dress with a bouffant that transitioned into a side-braid.

What’s in your bag, Oscar PR Girl?

Bag Oscar PR Girl

Photography by Stephanie Loy Son

Go inside Oscar PR Girl’s purse »

If the name Erika Bearman doesn’t ring a bell, the Twitter handle @OscarPRgirl certainly will. The newly turned blonde beauty (insider info: blondes do have more fun according to Bearman) came to visit Holt Renfrew last week and gushed about working for fashion legacy, Oscar de la Renta and the movie Truth or Dare. Seriously, if you want to hang with Bearman, it’s highly recommended you watch that film first. It has shaped her entire life (her words, not ours!)

With only a clutch in tow, Bearman showed how to edit a bag to only the essentials but just because it’s small doesn’t mean it didn’t pack a punch. We learned that in Oscar PR Girl’s world, “bigger is better and more is more” when it comes to her cellphone and eyelashes. And if you expected Bearman to be a total girly girl because of ODLR’s signature frothy gowns, you would be mistaken. The face behind the handle loves men’s scented fragrances and even wears Old Spice.

From men’s scents to Jacqueline Kennedy to Korea, Bearman had us captivated by her every word so read on and snoop around her clutch to learn all things Oscar PR Girl.»

Today’s edition of Who Wore It Best is a battle of the redheads: Rachel McAdams at Jimmy Kimmel Live vs. Christina Hendricks as Joan in season six of Mad Men.

Rachel McAdams recently converted to being a ginger with a new auburn hair colour that she debuted on Monday night in Los Angeles. Wearing a two-piece purple ensemble on Jimmy Kimmel Live—and she made sure to explain that it was not a jumpsuit—she blabbed about living in Toronto (!!!) and told a hilarious story about the time a grocery store clerk gave her some pot. Canada’s sweetheart just got a little bit more real.

The combination of the entirely purple look with fiery red locks jogged our memory of a recent outfit worn by everyone’s favourite redhead, Joan Holloway/Harris. Joan’s similar two-piece outfit from the season six premiere of Mad Men doesn’t feature sheer paneling like McAdams’, but instead has a dark purple vest that allows a ruffled button-up to show through. We must remember that this is a show set in the past, you guys.

Purple is a great tone for those with reddish locks so who do you think wears the colour better? Vote in our poll! Read more »

Toronto-based luxury boutique Augustina goes e-commerce

Augustina Loeffler Randall Lock Clutch

See our 5 picks from »

Toronto-based luxury boutique, Augustina, is going national with a new e-commerce site that launched today. Specializing in high-end brands (think: Rebecca Minkoff, Loeffler Randall, and Karen Zambos) the 12-year-old store is making shopping easy as pie and accessible to everyone in Canada.

Augustina’s online store sells a range of products from gold skull pendants to slip dresses that remind us Cher Horowitz’s iconic Calvin Klein dress that we will covet until the end of time. Augustina owner Cristina Burgess carefully selects pieces she feels have must-have appeal and we don’t disagree. If you can’t visit the brick and mortar store located in Toronto’s Yorkville centre, why not take some time on the Internet highway cruising through Augustina’s online selection?

To celebrate the launch of the e-commerce site, we picked five of our must-have Augustina pieces from the comfort of our desk (this is work, you guys).

Country music award shows have the tendency to bring out a whole lot of glitz—heavy on the glamour. And while last night’s Academy of Country Music Awards definitely had a few very, err, colourful gowns (we’re looking at you, Carrie Underwood) Taylor Swift and Kaley Cuoco both showed how simpler is often better.

Taylor Swift was looking sassy as ever and refused to flash a genuine smile while walking the carpet in a gunmetal Dolce & Gabbana column dress. Her gown had large embellishments at the neckline making her have no need for any accessories except for a simple pair of drop earrings. She toned down her beauty look and pulled her hair back into a low ponytail with a soft smoky eye and a nude lip.

K-Way’s coming this way! The packable raingear brand launches a Holt Renfrew pop-up shop

Holt Renfrew K Way Pop Up

See some of the K-Way styles available »

Not only is K-Way an iconic brand, it’s a practical brand. The company is known for its waterproof, windproof and warm jackets that can be easily folded up into a little bag and toted around—ready for whatever nature throws at us. And if the current weather situation across Canada has taught us anything, you really never know what can happen in a day.

K-Way is popping up at Holt Renfrew locations for a limited time and is offering some of its iconic jackets as well as suitcases and side bags. Ranging from $55-$295, K-Way pieces are a lifelong investment.

The French (who knew!) brand has grown to become synonymous with practical, packable and fashionable raingear since its launch in the 1970s and plays into our nostalgia for classic brands. So if you’re hunting for a timeless Spring/Fall rain jacket (Vancouverites, we’re looking at you), Holt Renfrew has got you covered and clothed. Snap up these pieces while you can, the pop-ups won’t last long.
