Get the Look: Hi-Fi Contouring

Contouring has taken on a competitive edge amongst shameless beauty vloggers. Witness clown contouring, henna contouring and a multitude of YouTube-friendly techniques to apply and blend powders, highlighters and concealers. The results are dramatic before-and-after shots that are itching for a gazillion likes and comments. At Isabel Marant’s fall collection, we spotted subtle contouring that we’re seriously smitten with. In line with the designer’s laissez faire aesthetic, contouring was used to enhance features instead of completely re-shaping them. Get on trend and take the same relaxed approach or you’ll risk looking more like a Kardashian than a French It girl.

STEP 1:

Brush on a medium coverage foundation and press it into skin with a damp cosmetic sponge.

STEP 2:

Add highlights by applying the light shade from a contour kit below the eye, down the centre of the nose and chin and in the middle of your forehead. Blend well.

Apply the dark shade from a contour kit in the hollow of your cheeks.

STEP 4:

Apply the darker shade down the sides of your nose, around the outer edges of your forehead and under the jaw line.

STEP 5:

Blend all your makeup markings into the skin with a foundation brush. Soften any hard lines with the warmth and pressure of your fingertips.

Looking for a bit of shimmer? Layer a light dusting of bronzer over the areas with dark contouring powder.
