Afternoon beauty fix: How to get voluminous curls like Lana Del Rey

I saw Lana Del Rey perform in Toronto last week and now I’m obsessed with her voluminous hair. How can I score the same look?
We love Lana’s look—her big hair, barely-there lipstick, and subtle smokey eyes are very ‘60s, like a West coast Brigitte Bardot. No matter the length of your hair, you’ll want to prepare, style, and set it with products that will pump up the volume and keep it there all day long. Begin by applying a style-prep product on damp hair. We’re fond of Samy Fat Hair Thickening Spray ($10, at drug stores) because it doesn’t have a waxy-finish and therefore won’t weight down your hair as the day goes on. (You can also apply it to dry hair for a mid-day boost of volume! Just flip your head over and spray it directly to the root.) Next, blow your hair out as big as possible with the help of a medium barrel brush. After, if you blast each section with cold air for 15 seconds, this will seal the cuticle of your hair, which helps to hold the style longer. If your hair is long, add big, loose waves, à la Miss Del Rey, with a large-barrelled curling iron. Then, polish it off with a finishing spray, like Garnier Fructis Volumizing Crystal Resist Spray ($6, at drug stores), to smooth flyaway strands and help keep a side-part in place. Want to add an accessory? Go for the “Video Games” look with a crown of colourful roses!
