Lush Ros Argan Body Conditioner

How can I make sure my skin is as moisturized as possible in this frigid weather?
The best defense against itchy, dry skin is a multi-step approach to hydration! First, as specified a few weeks ago, ditch the loofah and body wash and opt for a shea butter-based cleanser and an exfoliating body mitt to buff flakes away and reveal new skin, ready for the next dose of moisture in the form of a body conditioner. A body conditioner is exactly as it sounds: it’s a conditioner for your skin that you apply as you would conditioner to your hair. It sits on the skin for a few minutes to penetrate and is then rinsed off. One to try: Lush Ro’s Argan body conditioner ($33, lush.ca), which is loaded with Argan oil, almond oil and shea butter, among many other intensely moisturizing ingredients. Once you’re out of the shower, pat dry and enjoy the time-saving benefits of skin that’s already so hydrated, you probably won’t want to apply a moisturizer. (But for extra hydration, there’s no harm in slathering some on, too.)

St. Tropez Self Tan Dark Bronzing Mousse

What’s the best way to self-tan my body?
This is a fairly subjective topic, but from my own self-tanning experienced I can say that I’ve returned time and time again to the same product type and application method. My self-tanner of choice is St. Tropez self-tan dark bronzing mousse ($44, sephora.com) and an ideal accompaniment to it is the St. Tropez tan applicator mitt ($8, sephora.com). The mousse formula of this self-tanner provides a believable tint that makes it easy to see where you have already applied product and where you still need to add more or blend. The most exciting part is that the formula actually doesn’t smell like a self-tanner at all. This is a really significant achievement in the self-tanning world, so don’t let your sinuses stand in the way of a bit of bronzing in the dead of winter. (Seriously!) Now, the key to a believable self-tan is preparation. Exfoliation and hair removal should obviously be carried out prior to self-tanner application of any kind. (But try to shave your legs the day before—nothing’s worse than self-tanner collecting in the holes where leg hair once was!) I suggest a mitt for most self-tanner applications because it will really make a world of difference in terms of how quick and thorough the application is. Using a tan applicator mitt will also spare your palms and nails from getting stained, which is a dead giveaway that your colour is from a bottle—it’s almost like having your root regrowth show, you know?

Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener

I don’t like using more concealer to touch up during the day, but a little luminosity couldn’t hurt. What can I use?
Depending on the concealer formulation, it’s probably best not to layer too much more product on by the time the afternoon rolls around, as your skin probably is a bit dehydrated and additional concealer can appear cakey. If you’re looking for a bit of a boost with a sheer dose of colour, try Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener ($35, bobbibrown.ca). This light liquid brightener contains a blend of licorice extract, vitamin C and bamboo extract to brighten and even out skin tone in the undereye area. It also soothes skin, which everyone can probably use after 8 hours of staring at computer monitors and smartphone screens alike. Bonus: it comes in ten shades, so there’s bound to be a match to help you appear a little bit more bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!

Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel

My brows aren’t really in need of much filling in, but they’re on the unruly side! Help me tame them!
If you happen to be blessed with the brows of Cara Delavigne or her ilk, I speak for many people when I say I am a touch envious of you! Big brows have been having a moment for quite some time and I’m pretty sure it’s because they’re ridiculously youthful and flattering. What’s more fresh in appearance than a pared-down face and a statement brow? Nothing. Absolutely nothing! To get your arches in order, run Anastasia brow gel ($27, sephora.com) through your brows. Not only is this formula tinted to give brows a bit of a sheen (nothing too flashy, just flattering when they catch the light), it will keep your hairs in place all day without budging or flaking—no joke, this stuff is infallible!

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bahama

What’s a similar lip colour that I can use to achieve Rosie Huntington-Whitely’s look?
Rosie Huntington-Whitely is a stunner of all sorts—from her body to her hair to her face, it kind of hurts to look directly at her. When you do catch a glimpse off the red carpet and in a day-to-day look, her lips definitely can captivate one’s attention because they appear to be flushed with a lovely rosewood shade. To mimic this look, opt for a velvety lip colour that won’t make your face fall flat, but won’t be overly shiny, which is a look Rosie seems to perfect. Two lip colours to play with: Nars Velvet Matte lip pencils in “Bahama” and “Bettina” ($30 each, narscosmetics.ca), which are a dusty pink brown colour (for all over the lips) and a rose beige sheen, respectively. Use the first colour all over the mouth and use second as a highlight in the centre of the lower lip. Understated and elegant, much like Rosie!
