How to get wavy hair: Loose, broken waves are on-trend for summer and easy to master with this tutorial

Loose curls, natural textures and beach-inspired styles are all popular during summer months—but for those of us with straight hair a little bit of extra effort is required. Showing us how to get wavy hair is Moroccanoil artistic director Antonio Corral Calero. I met up with Antonio at the Quartz Crystal Spa at Toronto’s Trump International Hotel to talk about summer hair trends and it was his recent work at New York Fashion Week during the Spring 2013 season that inspired this wavy hair look. Without a doubt the biggest style for this summer is the loose, broken wave. Think the dropped out waves from the Tanya Taylor Fall 2013 runway—it’s more about a messy, breezy style than perfect ringlets.
Start by prepping your hair with Moroccanoil Hair Treatment, applying it from the middle to the ends of your hair (likely the most damaged part). Next, add some Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Creme to the top section of your hair—this will add flexibility and bounce to your style.
Next, get a large barrel curling iron (at least 1.5 inches) and start to curl small sections of hair, wrapping the hair around the barrel, towards the back of your head. (It’s important to curl each section in the same direction as you go—it’s a big part of how to get wavy hair.) You also want to leave the ends of the hair out of the curling iron, this helps to add randomness and loose texture to the style.
Once all your hair is curled, finish the look but running your fingers through your hair to further break up the style—the messier the better.
