In a decade or two, when our children ask us what life was like in 2015, what will we have to say besides “Kim Kardashian ruled the world, Amal hadn’t left George Clooney yet (sorry but it’ll happen) and everyone had a lob”? While we can’t—and don’t want to—do anything about the first two, we can certainly change the latter.
Everyone—everyone—got a lob last year and honestly, it doesn’t look like the trend is slowing down anytime soon, which is fine, we guess. We’ve found five haircuts that you can choose from before your next appointment that are cool, refreshing, and most importantly, will not make you look like Lauren Conrad, Taylor Swift and literally everyone else in Hollywood.
We’re used to thinking of growing out a pixie as the ultimate form of torture—right up there with shopping for jeans. But Kristen Stewart has shown us that it can be done gracefully by adding asymmetrical layers and the right amount of product (hair oils are your friend!).
The key here is to look like you just rolled out of bed, and if that’s just not your jam, then this isn’t the look for you so get out some bobby pins and slick back your strands until hair is grown out. Sorry.

Speaking of growing out hair, mid-length tresses were formerly associated with that growing out phase. You know the look: hair that’s mostly one length and hits somewhere below the shoulders but isn’t lengthy enough to be considered “long hair.”
However, the style has graduated from a transition phase to a chic standalone look, as seen on Kendall Jenner. If you’re not into parting with your length (remember: no matter what Instagram says, you do not have to get a lob), this is a great way to add movement to your hair and update your look.
