6 Beauty Panel members recreate their favourite red carpet looks from awards season

We’re not going to lie. We’re going through some major awards season withdrawal now that it’s officially behind us. How can we forget Lady Gaga’s multi-shade smoky eye from the Grammys or Lorde’s super-sleek ponytail from the Golden Globes, or the lipgloss fest at the Oscars? While many of the celeb beauty looks were perfect for red carpet events, some might think the looks are too much for everyday. Cue the Beauty Panel. From a Margot Robbie-inspired bold orange lip to a Jennifer Lopez’s Oscars glow, we asked our panelists to recreate their favourite awards season makeup.

For the 2015 Oscars, the lovely Sienna Miller had makeup artist and all around beauty guru, Charlotte Tilbury, create her look. What was created was a classic, mega-babe effect complete with a smoky cat-eye and neutral, rose-toned lips. The look was created with Charlotte’s own line, and while it’s not readily available in Canada I was able to do just fine with what I had on hand. The key here is lots of smudging around the lash line and emphasizing the shape of your natural eye with matte brown shadow, pulling it up on the ends with a blending brush.

To top off the look I used Rimmel’s East End Snob Lip Pencil, which is a very close dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Pencil that was used on Sienna.

This is a fantastic look for a night out on the town or even a special event as it draws a lot of attention to the eyes but requires little maintenance due to the neutral lip colour.

As soon as I saw Margot Robbie’s stunning makeup on the red carpet of the Oscars this year, I found myself completely smitten. The bold lip, one of my absolute favourite trends, can be an amazing way to let your makeup shine. Even though it is commonly associated with the glitz and glamour of the red carpet, it is also quite easy to incorporate into your day-to-day look. Let your lips do the talking and try pairing it with nothing but a bit of foundation, bronzer and mascara. This is usually my go-to makeup look, especially if I’m in a rush and want an instant pop. If you are looking for a more subtle way to wear this trend, try out a lip stain as an alternative to lipstick.

In my books, whether you’re sporting jeans and a tee or putting on your party dress, bold lips are always on the must-have list!

Incredibly enough, this year’s red carpet manicures weren’t wild or crazy. In fact, they were sophisticated, classic and naked. The “naked” nail look was achieved with polish shades ranging from nude to lilac to barely-there pink. Oddly enough, when it comes to my everyday life, wearing a classic manicure is not enough so I end up adding my own red carpet flair to an otherwise basic, yet very trendy award season mani.

I started by painting my nails two coats of a Sothys Paris in “Beige,” which was fully opaque in two coats. Once those two coats were relatively dry, I topped my nails with a super shiny topcoat and quickly set black nail art studs on my pinky and index nails. After waiting for the topcoat on my two middle nails to dry completely, I applied black striping tape to create the lines and trimmed off the excess. For longevity, top coat the middle nails again so the tape stays intact and doesn’t lift or catch on anything.

Now, go be red carpet fabulous!

My favourite look this awards season was J. Lo’s at the Oscars. I loved the dress, the hair, the makeup, that J. Lo glow! Swoon.

To recreate her makeup I kept the foundation light and went heavy with the contouring; I applied bronzer generously on the perimeter of my face and mixed it in with the blush for that flushed tan effect. I finished it off by dusting a golden highlighter on my cheekbones, chin and above my eyebrows cupids bow.

On the eyes, I used a peachy coppery shadow and took it under the eye to create a smoky eye effect. I then used a dark liner to tight line only and went to town on my lashes with three generous coats of my most volumizing mascara. I finished the look with a peachy pink lipstick applied lightly on the lips.

Each and every year I highly anticipate the arrival of award season – although, my excitement has little to do with the award shows themselves and more to do with the televised red carpet events. I merely want to see the stars flaunt their perfectly done hair and makeup, model a custom gown, and tell Ryan Seacrest how much the jewels they are adorned in cost.

But my favourite red carpet event of all is the Grammy Awards. The reason being is that the stars are able to take more fashion and beauty risks given that this is a celebration of music and creativity. This year Zendaya, a Disney starlet/young Miley Cyrus if you will, wowed at the Grammy’s with a pixie cut and the most stunning, sensual lip colour I’ve come across in a while. To my surprise this lip was so easy to re-create that I may end up wearing it daily until spring. Simply begin by filling in lips with a dark brown lipstick – here I’ve used the Bite Beauty Matte Créme Lip Crayon in “Cognac.” I swear I’ll own every shade of this lip crayon by the end of the year. They apply beautifully, feel comfortable on the lips and provide a pigmented, long-lasting lip colour with a matte finish. To add some dimension, I’ve added a touch of Benefit’s Watt’s Up to the centre of the lip before applying a bit of my Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Amy with my finger to make my lips appear fuller. This golden nude lipgloss is packed with gold shimmer and adds a beautiful shine, completing the look.

After reading this week’s challenge, I immediately knew that I wanted to recreate Margot Robbie’s stunning beauty look from the Oscars. It was one of the night’s standout beauty moments for me and I think she is absolutely flawless at all times on the red carpet (I am still in extreme denial that we are the same age)! I first made sure to prime my skin to create a smooth canvas and then I went in with one of my current favourite foundations for an even skin tone that looks airbrushed. I also applied my favourite full coverage concealer to my dark circles and any blemishes. I then contoured the hollows of my cheeks, along my hairline and across my jaw to get that chiseled look that Margot rocked. Next I applied a highlighter on my cheekbones and used a rosy blush on the apples of my cheeks. I then used a tinted brow gel to fill in my brows and to set them in place. I then applied a shimmery champagne eyeshadow on my eyelids and down across my lower lash line. Next, I drew a thin line of black liquid eyeliner across the upper lash line. I then primed my eyelashes and applied a very lengthening and volumizing mascara.

And now on to the best part: the lips. I first filled in my lips with a rosy-toned lip liner and then applied a rosy-coral lip crayon all over it. I then topped it off with a brighter coral shade. I absolutely loved her rosy-orange lips and was very happy with the gorgeous result!
