We’ve been fans of Demi Lovato (or Lovatics, as her fans are known) for a long time. We recently chatted with our former cover girl about her new skincare line, Devonne by Demi and as we learned when we rummaged through her purse back in the day, clear and healthy skin really is a top priority for her—so we have that in common.

“Like anybody else, I get my spots and pimples and clogged pores, because I’m human,” she explained. “So I wanted to create a skincare line that can help with that but that’s also all-natural. It all ties back into taking care of yourself and self-love.” The concept of self-love comes up a lot in our conversation with Lovato, and is something that extends to her work as a spokesperson for Tampax.

The 3-step line features a Deep Facial Cleanser, Hydrating Radiance Mist and 3-in-1 Moisturizing Primer. Rather than harsh perfumes, they’re infused with lavender, lemon, rosemary and chamomile. Oh, and the natural ingredients are no joke. Devonne by Demi uses ingredients like Reishi mushroom extract, wakame seaweed and liquorice root to cleanse and hydrate skin.

The queen of no-makeup selfies definitely still loves her a good red lip, though. “I’ve always been comfortable with [going makeup-free], and it’s progressed over the past year [thanks to] my skincare line. But I do love makeup a lot.”

Lovato’s only regret? “I wish when I was younger I wore sunscreen more often to really protect my skin. But it wasn’t necessarily important to me growing up. It’s never too late to start, though.”

“[When I was] 8 years old, I got a book that was all about making your own treatments, like masks and things like that, out of products that were in your kitchen,” Lovato told us. “I just loved the spa-like feeling of all of that. As I got older I really started learning about skincare and taking care of my skin.”

Her favourite DIY treatment these days? “My skincare line. I did it myself.”
