Beauty moments of the week: Rihanna debuts the king of brows, Suki showers in Coke + more
A lot can happen in seven days. That’s why every Friday, we’re going to take time to look at three beauty moments we had feelings about that week, and discuss them accordingly.
1. Rihanna’s eyebrows are the stuff Cara Delevingne’s dreams are made of
After being led to believe that Rihanna was dropping a surprise album on us this week (because some of us just wanted to believe it), we were graced with a new single and album art instead. So for the record, the song is great. And if you’re the bitch Rihanna is asking for money from, I hope you’ve handed it over by now. But — and maybe controversially — the album art is even better.
Featuring Rihanna in a leather jacket, slicked back hair, and the strongest eyebrows in the game (sorry, Cara), the cover maintains her legacy of reinvention by delivering a toned down — and tougher-looking — version of herself. The look comes courtesy of makeup artist Yadim, who masterminded Lady Gaga’s face in the “Applause” video, and who has also subsequently now kick-started and even bigger brow trend. Rihanna, where were you to save us when we were all over-plucking in high school?
2. Kim Kardashian has betrayed her blonde legions
Just for the record: you’re probably going to read a lot of “I guess blondes don’t have more fun” jokes over the next couple of days, and I want you to know they’ll never happen here. This is a safe space.
But yes, it’s true: after a few weeks spent as a platinum blonde, Kim K couldn’t handle it anymore, and went back to her roots. Literally. (Also, I am allowed one bad joke per week.)
“She goes to Armenia next week and wanted to be brunette for Armenia,” a source (Kris?) said. “She really did it for Paris Fashion Week and that’s over so she figured now it was time to get back to normal.”
And fair, I guess. This dye job was done by colourist Lorri Goddard (who was also behind Kim’s platinum look), but it came as a surprise, considering Kim’s been more than vocal about loving her locks via social media. (Why would you lie to us, Kimberly?) But fortunately, you won’t have to scroll through her Instagram feed to gaze upon a blonde Kardashian. Elle France has immortalized golden haired Kim on their cover, who looks like she’s daring us all to go blonde for three weeks.
3. Suki Waterhouse wants you to wash your hair with Coca-Cola
Just like the only line we remember in that Savage Garden song (that’s what it’s about, right?), Suki Waterhouse has confirmed that she washes her hair in (chica-cherry) cola.
“I rinse my hair in Coca-Cola sometimes,” she revealed. “I don’t like my hair when it’s washed — it’s fine and limp — but Coca-Cola makes it tousled, like I’ve gone through the Amazon or something.”
Wow. Okay. Sure. Refinery29 actually chatted with a stylist who strongly advised against this, explaining that the sugar in Coca-Cola can truly mess with your hair, especially since the drink can “take the rust off chrome.” So maybe Suki doesn’t know about salt spray. Or maybe she just doesn’t care. But what matters more than any of this is that while Suki Waterhouse is free to do what she likes, we all still deserve to know what led to her choosing to pour pop on her head.
