Beauty moments of the week: Celebrity hairstyles mean many things, apparently

A lot can happen in seven days. That’s why every Friday, we’re going to take time to look at three beauty moments we had feelings about that week, and discuss them accordingly.

1. Julianne Hough has dyed her hair “the colour of kindness”

Big news came out of Hollywood this week when it was revealed that “the colour of kindness” is officially pink. And also: it’s now Julianne Hough’s hair colour. The Dancing With the Stars judge took the plunge and gave up life as a blonde, opting instead for pink hair (of which she doesn’t care). But she does! At least enough to give us a glimpse into the inner workings of her colour process via blog post, where she interviewed Riawna Capri, stylist to the stars (and herself).

“It was time to shake things up,” Hough wrote. “I love to experiment with my looks by way of beauty products, styling tools, and sometimes even taking things a step further — remember last year when I chopped off all my hair? It was a big, bold move but it was worth it!” “So why did I decide the colour pink this time?” she continued. “Because pink is the colour of kindness!”

But really: pink is the actual colour of the Kind Campaign (which works to stop bullying). So there’s literally no way you can’t support Hough’s new ‘do. Also, I’ve been waiting my whole life to make that rhyme.

2. Tyra got the Businesswoman Special

“Is there a special?” I’m sure Tyra Banks asked her stylist last month. “For businesswomen?” (There was.)

After chopping off all her hair in March, the America’s Next Top Model host/creator finally opened up about what made her go to (the opposite of) great lengths.

“I had long, golden hair as a high-fashion model, and that’s how people know me,” she said. “But great brands tweak their logos and change up their formula, and I said it’s time for me to do that.” Amen! Pink hair, don’t care! Short hair, don’t care! There’s something very liberating about not needing to whip one’s hair back and forth.

So the rest was history. Banks went on to say that her new look has made her stand with her shoulders back, led to her seeking out outfits with “structure and angles,” and that her vibe is now “futuristic businesswoman.” And to all of this, I say thank goodness. Because if anyone can inspire a legitimate Businesswoman Special, it will be Tyra Banks.

3. Rihanna has a new hair colour and it better mean a new album is coming

And so to complete the holy trinity of this week’s hair news, Rihanna joined Snapchat with a bang on Monday (BTW: we’ve all been mispronouncing her name for a decade, and we’re monsters because of it), and she debuted a new colour, too.

The red hue is supposedly for her new video. So, is she taking on a new persona for the album entirely? Is it for the video for “Bitch Better Have My Money” (aka the life motto of anybody who’s ever freelanced)? Does her super-nineties look mean the album will be super-nineties, and thus tailored specifically for my enjoyment?

And why red? For passion? For love? Because she can? Because if I ever question anything Rihanna does again I’ll be escorted into the desert and buried in sand?
