With a background in cosmetics, the hair challenge was a little bit scary for me. I have a handful of hairstyles that interchange on a day-to-day basis. The one that I am featuring here is the one I get questions on the most. With the trend of hair accessories for fall, I wanted to incorporate something that could work for most outfits and even in the office.

This hairstyle works best if you have side swept bangs or no bangs at all. I give myself a severe side part, and take a small section of the hair. I twist that section once and grab new pieces with every twist after. It is almost like a French braid, but requires less skill and works on all hair types. Once I have wrapped the twist partly around my head I take 1 bobby pin and with the open-end pointing inwards of the twist, I secure it in place. Doing this hides the bobby pin, and also ensures that the style stays in place all day.

For the second part of the style, I take the remaining hair from above my ear, brush it up and take it to the end of the twisted section. I then twist the hair once and secure it with a bobby pin using the same method described above.

For the accessory, I take an adorable black lace clip bow from Forever 21 and attach it to the area where the two sections of hair meet. Doing this finishes the classic look off with a modern edge. Finish with hair spray and you can flat iron your hair, or have large soft curls.

The bobby pin comes with endless possibilities for styling. Used traditionally to pin the hair in place, hairstylists have mainly gone about styling the hair with bobby pins by tucking and hiding them to make them unnoticeable. Until recently. It has become a beautiful trend to expose these pins and make wonderful art with them. Whether it is with a dramatic flare à la Rihanna (having them line your entire head) or with a cute and flirty twist creating shapes in various places (triangles, arrows, etc) bobby pin art is one of the hippest ways to style your hair this fall.

Here I recreated a chevron-like pattern. I chose to go with black bobby pins to have high contrast against my blonde hair. If you have darker hair, try out gold or silver to make it stand out. I gathered my hair and did the invisible tuck with a few pins to keep it off to the side. Then I started by the top left pin, inserting each on an angle and creating the point in the middle. I like the casual vibe to this hairstyle, and feel that having it a little undone just adds to its appeal. This is a super easy way to incorporate hair accessories into your routine. Try out different coloured pins, and try creating different shapes. There is plenty of room to play!

This look is great for the woman that’s on the go. It can also be dressed up for an occasion. It’s perfect for creating a more wearable look in comparison to the crazy big hair accessories we saw at multiple shows this fall. First, I tease the hair at the crown of my head for volume. Then I take the upper half of my hair (above the ears) into a loose low ponytail; being careful not to lose the volume I already created. Then, I create another low ponytail by bringing the rest of my hair together (the lower half of my hair) with the hair hanging out from the first pony. Next I add a fun costume headband for a high-fashion look. Super easy and can be done in a matter of minutes!
