Drop–dead sexy
Thea Mitchell, makeup artist for celebrities such as Jill Scott and Macy Gray, knows the pain of having the wrong makeup shades tragically painted on her brown skin. “I went around in the ’80s with poppy-red lipstick and purple blush and didn’t know any better,” says Mitchell, founder of DeadSexy (deadsexycosmetics.com). A specialized cosmetics line focused on helping women, especially women of colour, find the right products, right now, DeadSexy adheres to a “less is more” mantra while avoiding the “one shade fits all” approach of many mainstream brands. —Jacquelyn Francis
