Beneficial beauty

With a bevy of beauty brands jumping on the eco-sustainability bandwagon, it can be tough to tell lip service from the real deal, but The Body Shop’s Community Trade program actually lives up to its claim of social and environmental responsibility. The latest products in the two-decade old program, Flawless Skin Protecting Foundation SPF 25 ($23) and Concealer ($16, both at thebodyshop.ca) are infused with marula oil, a super-rich moisturizer made from nuts picked and processed by more than 4,800 women in Namibia.
This multitasking makeup hydrates, evens your skin tone and hides dark circles and provides income for Namibian households through equitable trade (read: fair pay for work). On top of all this, Community Trade ingredients are harvested without depleting natural resources. Plus, all of The Body Shop’s products are either vegetarian or vegan. Don’t you just love products that make you and the world around you more beautiful?
