Safari statement

I just got back from sitting in the chair of makeup guru Joseph Costa of YSL Beauté and I must say it was the most fun I’ve had in forever! I’m the kind of girl who’ll try anything once, so when Costa started to smear the gorgeous products from the new Soleil D’Afrique collection (at Holt Renfew) onto my hand, I insisted he put them on my winter-pale face instead.
I didn’t regret it: the man is seriously brilliant with a brush, plus he’s totally unpretentious and hilarious. The smoky eyes that he created for me (using the Palette Couleurs D’Afrique for the Eyes ($78) and Everlong Waterproof Lengthening Mascara ($36) in “Ever Burgundy”) were so sexy, I wanted to go out dancing rather than back to my desk. (I resisted¾it was 11:30am, after all.) When I did get back to the office, all our editors flipped out about the collection’s pièce de résistance: the tribal-inspired Soleil D’Afrique Collector Powder for the Complexion ($92). If the compact was just a stunner of a statement necklace, it would be impressive enough, but the beechwood pendant opens to reveal a full-size Poudre de Soleil bronzer and mirror for on-the-go glow¾very Jane-Bond-on-safari. This one’s not leaving my neck, so go out and get your own!
