New York: Day seven

How much collections are catering to the red carpet; Miuccia Prada's latest animated feature "Trembled Blossoms;" Karen Elson's fringe (super short); the cancellation of the Vanity Fair Oscar party; the Year of The Rat!!!
Must-haves: Coloured tights, a brightly coloured frock, quirky cloches. A sunglasses collection (so many designers are doing them-Proenza Schouler, Derek Lam).
Michael Kors just feels so N.Y. - you have to love it. All the delicious socialites kiss-kissing in their fresh blowouts is too good to miss! He reverted to the ‘50s instead of the ‘70s this season, which had a sexy librarian feeling I loved. The floral cocktail dresses were less slinky and more Young Society than usual.

Anna Sui was a joy to watch! It was my first time seeing her show in real life and what a thrill. It was an eclectic (hate this word but it really was) mix of everything from Gustav Klimt to Native American, all in bold shades and prints. See photos from this show.
This fall, Phillip Lim worked his usual magic, hitting the trends at a price point we can live with. The pack of hard-core fans he attracts, all sporting current Lim looks, was like a show before the show! The bright shifts and sculptural coats are definitely on my wish list.
Derek Lam's collection was dark and brooding compared to most of what has been happening in N.Y. so far. He was inspired by the life and work of Isak Dinesen, and his modern take on turn-of-the-century was beautifully done with a focus on mixing textures; fur, sequins, tweed and lace. Pretty hair bows and delicate Victorian-looking jewellery added to the mix. New Canadian model sensation, Kori Richardson, looked like a star in this show.
I raced out of the above show to get to Temperley at the Tents only to find that I was one of, oh, 300 women in heels speed-walking to catch a cab. You have to laugh at the ridiculousness of grown-ups trying to cut in front of each other like kids in a playground... After walking about 12 blocks I caught one and arrived at the Tents just in time to watch the crowd exit the show...Sorry! At least I worked off the bag of chips I scarfed down before the Phillip Lim show.
