New York: Day eight

Shown: Vera Wang Fall 2008. Photography by Peter Stigter.
Thursday kicked off with Vera Wang and this season it looked cooler–more sexy and street–than usual. Wang's rich palette of gold and burgundy mixed well with the variety of luxe textures, accented by sparkly silver cuffs. The look was inspired by portraits by Dutch artist Kees van Dongen. Emerging trend: Detail on the back of looks–think silk bustles, tails of tulle and fur. See photos from this show.
For his first collection shown during N.Y. Fashion Week, Canadian designer Arthur Mendonça showed his strongest lineup yet. Lots of lovely silk tunics, shift dresses, slouchy blouses tucked into pegged trousers, tuxes, biker jackets and over-size blazers. Sitting beside Nelly Furtado and cooing over our fave looks was a special treat. BTW: Nelly wore Mendonça to the recent Grammy Awards.
Calvin Klein showed a very structured collection with lots of black, charcoal and navy. The only voluminous element to the line came in the way of coats. Personal faves? Dresses that combined satin and wool. Spotted: Liv Tyler. See photos from this show.
Seen all over town: Vincent Gallo wearing a cute Stephen Jones maroon hat. I can't look at him without thinking of him eating the maid in Claire Denis' film Trouble Every Day.
My first Zac Posen show was divine! The cashmere pompoms on either side of the models' tight chignons looked like my hair in kindergarten but it contrasted well with the girly tuxes and slinky smoking jackets. Besides the quilted skirt suits it was mostly Oscar city. Model mishap: Karen Elson took a nosedive in her ballgown with a sweet little yelp–but that only added to the fun of the show. See photos from this show.
