Paris: Day eight

By Sarah Casselman

Shown: Nina Ricci Fall 2008. Photography by Peter Stigter.

So sad that fashion week is drawing to an end. I have truly loved every moment–from the mad crush at the tent entrance to the metallic accents on coats, bags and shoes to the mid-afternoon macaroon fashion refuels.

The Nina Ricci show was absolutely stunning–tons of fluid, silky pants, velvet frocks, vintage-inspired beaded embellishment and long train accents. Very romantic mood despite a few sharp-shouldered jackets that appeared on the runway. Celeb spotting: Marisa Berenson sitting front row looking oh-so-elegant in oversize sunnies and hair piled into a chignon. Did I mention the jaw-dropping boulder of a ring?  Back to the show...loved the blush-coloured silk pants–très chic! Trend alert: matchy match is back. Think same colour frock and footwear. Must-haves: short gloves with brooch accent and silk pleated harem pants. The hair and makeup message had an ethereal/Victorian feel with crimped sections of loosely styled locks and sheer washes of colour on the face. The off-the-shoulder full-length gowns left me breathless in all of their frothy fabulousness. See photos from this show.

Held at the Louvre, the Louis Vuitton show proved to be a big celeb draw.

Spotted front row...and conveniently across from yours truly: Kanye West, Milla  Jovovich, Lee Radziwill, Sofia Coppola and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Right before the show began, Marc Jacobs popped out on the runway and yelled "can everyone take their seats so we can start the show?"...obviously a calculated move based on his show last season? Hmm....

LV offered up tons of chic tailored looks: ¾-length coats with gathered waists, chic suitings, full silk skirts, fur coats and fitted blazers with the tiniest of peplums. Fave new colour for fall: icy blue. Madcap Marc detail: wire frames popping out from under tailored jackets. Hot extras: jet beading, black and silver gauntlets, funnel collars, tulle trains, wide silver cuffs and geisha-style sky-high wedges. And I thought my feet were hurting....See photos from this show.

Popped into a few showrooms during the afternoon–Tom Binns jewellery at the Crillon Hotel (the baubles and the billion dollar hotel has me drooling...) and Anya Hindmarch at the Ritz Hotel

Final show of the week–Lanvin. One word: GORGEOUS. Designer Alber Elbaz definitely hit the mark on the simple silhouette. Think: one-shouldered dresses belted, elegant silk pencil skirts, tiny tiers on tops and frocks, suede gloves pushed down on the arm, chunks of sparklers dangling from black ribbon, and strapless silk maxi gowns with bow details. Models looked modern (smudgy black-rimmed eyes) but with a certain delicate softness (loosely pinned-back tresses). Elbaz got a huge reception from the fashion pack as he humbly took a walk down the runway in his signature oversize bowtie. See photos from this show.

Walking back to my hotel from the show, I stopped by the Louvre and sat outside in one of the incredible courtyards. I kid you not, dear FASHION reader, when I say that I suddenly heard strains of a saxophone nearby. The song? La Vie En Rose. How fitting. Ah Paris...J'adore ça. Until we meet again, bisous. xo
