Saskatoon: A classic pick for V-Day

I don’t understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine’s Day.  When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon.—Author Unknown

While wandering through the mall last week, I passed by window displays of teddy bears, cards, chocolates and roses.  It wasn’t until a picture of a heart-shaped diamond pendant caught my eye that I realized I had been oblivious to the obvious: Valentine’s Day. Though I am not really the romantic type, I definitely don’t have any problems with the holiday.  Leave out the sappy love poems, but bring on the chocolates and flowers. And I don’t mind a nice dinner for two.

Precious metals and gems have a tendency to last longer than roses, so jewellery would be my pick.  A pendant necklace (shown, Swarovski, $95), black pearl earrings or some silver bangles from Heinrichs (The Centre @ Circle and 8th, 3310 8th St.t E., 306-374-7171, heinrichsjewellery.com) are sure to make any girl’s heart skip. The shop is family-owned, committed to their customers and has long been one of my favourite places for quality jewellery. And if you can’t find the exact piece that you are looking for, you can collaborate with their in-store artist or master goldsmith to create a custom-designed piece.
