Night of the fashionable stars
Posted on May 3, 2008
The Toronto chapter of Fashion Group International held its annual Night of Stars gala downtown at the Carlu recently, bringing out the brightest of Canadian fashion stars, natch. Though this fashionable girl was riding her couch due to a severe throat infection, details came pouring in fast and furious from my own fashionably lovely friends. Along with the night’s honorees—including twins Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared, designer Wayne Clark, Holt Renfrew’s Barbara Atkin, journo David Livingstone and interior-design guy Brian Gluckstein—the well-heeled crowd consisted of Zoomer mag editrix Suzanne Boyd (looking lovely in a lingerie-inspired ensemble), who arrived with Ian Hylton, Pink Tartan’s Kimberley Newport-Mimran was there with hubby Joe, who was presenting, Natalie Lecomte from Holts dazzled in a pistachio Greta Constantine mini, while eTalk’s Ben Mulroney arrived with fiancée Jessica Brownstein.

Before heading to New York to reportedly marry Beyoncé, his girlfriend of six years, Jay-Z stopped by Lobby on Bloor Street in Toronto for what people were calling his bachelor party. Arriving after his Hogtown concert with Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, a.k.a. Shawn Carter, was escorted in through the back door and held court with his mostly male entourage including Roots public relations guru Raymond Perkins.

Comedian Chris Rock seemed to have a good time while in Toronto recently to perform a stand-up show at Massey Hall. The night before, he enjoyed bottle service at Brant House with some buddies. Following his hilarious gig, he headed back to his hotel, the Four Seasons, for dinner with said pals at Truffles, before moving the party to his suite.

Until next time!

As Fashion Week Fall 2008 came to an end, there was still some celebrating to be done. Thursday night’s festivities were in full swing by the time we ventured out. A brief stop at Ultra Supper Club for Paul Hardy and Travel Alberta’s pre-show cocktail (and some yummy baby kobe burgers) and we were off to the tents.

In between nights out on the town with a certain Toronto public relations man, a very handsome Mark Wahlberg was spotted last week shooting scenes for his latest flick Max Payne at a Queen Street East parking lot (the crew was also spotted the week before, just down the street at Church and Adelaide). In mega-star-style, while the crew spent the better part of the day setting up the shoot, Wahlberg was later dropped off on set in a limo, hopping directly into the car in which he was shooting his scene. Nearby, resident neighbours said the star was very friendly, even waving to on-lookers in between takes.
