'Tis the Season

'Tis the Season

Posted on November 30, 2007

With the holidays fast approaching, this fashionable girl has been hitting the scene. It has been quite a busy week, kittens, beginning on Friday at the newly renovated Windsor Arms tea room for high tea, and ending with the North American premiere of the non-alcoholic drink soon to be on everyone’s lips.

FRIDAY
Taking my position alongside some colleagues for Twilight Tea (named for the deep blue and purple decor) in the tea room at the Windsor Arms, Toronto’s poshest boutique hotel, I was treated to lovely scones and mini-sandwiches while sipping some warm English breakfast–very welcome  on a cold, rainy day. As we moved into Twenty Two, the (also newly renovated) bar, the only thing keeping us from over-indulging was the crowded, super-small room, packed with travel and fashion journalists.

TUESDAY
The following Tuesday it was time for some club action as pseudo-celeb DJ Steve Aoki (model Devon Aoki’s brother) took to the turntables at the Motorola Razr2 party at the Kool Haus. Between blasts from the past (think: early Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder), Aoki pleasantly surprised a few of the guests by blaring Britney’s “comeback” single, “Gimme More.” After a quick kung fu presentation, hairstylists Jie Matar and Allan Parss took to the side stage to intricately craft (or tear out, depending on your point of view)  some models’ hair in Razr-approved styles. Besides the resident fashion crowd (including Canada’s Next Top Model eliminee Gina Guimont) there were no other celebs to speak of. Sigh. We do wish we were in L.A. sometimes, at least for the A to Z-list sightings.

WEDNESDAY
Toronto’s finest fashion scribes and PR mavens were spotted Wednesday night at Avenue, the bar at the Four Seasons. Former Suede editor-in-chief Suzanne Boyd was spotted with some former Toronto colleagues (myself included!). PR gal about town Deb Lewis was also there, as was CTV’s Seamus O’Regan, the National Post’s Shinan Govani and Roots PR man Raymond Perkins.

THURSDAY

Making its Canadian and North American debut, European soft drink Outox, packed with vitamin C and said to help out with those dreaded holiday hangovers, celebrated its arrival with a media and VIP party at the Hard Rock Cafe on Yonge on Thursday evening. Local rapper Kardinal Offishall, whose next disc will come out on American hitmaker Akon’s label, wowed the crowd of 600 with his electric performance while DJ Baba Khan spun the latest hits for the attendees, including MuchMusic’s Matte Babel, and Playboy bunnies April Morgan and Cara Wakelin.

Thankfully this fashionable gal has about a week to relax until December’s parties and all that holiday shopping must begin.
