Gnarls Barkley: The Odd Couple
Warner
It was pretty much impossible to escape multi-instrumentalist Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton and vocalist Cee-Lo Green’s massive hit “Crazy,” from their 2006 debut, St. Elsewhere. Seemingly cheerful on the surface—hello party song!—it became weirder the more you listened to it and on their sophomore outing, the duo have definitely taken this darker side and run with it.

The Baroness: Sarah Slean
Warner
It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for, well, two types of music: Disco-infused, electronic pop and the genre I like to call “Sad Girls Singing”.

These Montreal lads have been causing quite a bit of indie tongue-wagging since they signed to Secret City Records, the home of Polaris Prize-winner Patrick Watson.

Made in the Dark by Hot Chip
The third full-length release from these hipster club favourites, Made in the Dark takes Hot Chip’s poppy electro stylez to a new quirky level. Expectations were high after the success of their eminently danceable Mercury Prize-nominated album The Warning and it s single “Over and Over,” and the boys don’t disappoint.

One of my favourite groups since they stole my heart with 1999’s three-disc set, 69 Love Songs (Best. Breakup music.Ever), the Magnetic Fields are back with their latest offering, Distortion.

Greatest Hits by Fritz Helder & the Phantoms
OK, we love them because they put on a full dance show (Fritz is a choreographer for Nelly Furtado), we love them because they have great outfits, and yes, we love them because their super dance-y mix of electro pop is infectious, but mostly we love them because they are clearly just as obsessed with fashion as we are.

OK, as guilty pleasures go, the new Britney Spears album is probably at the top of the list.

People Carrier by Major Maker
Hot on the striding-happily-down-the-street heels of their explosive summer track, "Rollercoaster"—from the Maynard's candy commercial (Oh yeah, you heard it. Everywhere), and their "Talk to You" from a Telus ad—Toronto's Major Maker is riding the wave with a quick launch of their six-track EP People Carrier.

Disco Romance by Sally Shapiro
Riding the wave of disco-infused electropop (say that three times fast) is Sally Shapiro’s shimmering debut, Disco Romance, which is finally appearing in Canada after making bouncy waves in Europe since the spring.
