What is Free to a Good Home? by Emily Haines and the Soft Skeletons
Brassy Metric frontwoman Emily Haines showed her softer side on her solo release Knives Don’t Have Your Back, and now she’s back in an even more beautiful, melancholic pose with a new EP.
Featuring six songs inspired by the 2003 death of her father, poet Paul Haines, she even puts some of his words to music in tracks like “Sprig,” a lingering piano number. She also broods about finding a new drug–be it partying, drinking or cash– in “The Bank.” It’s note-perfect, late-night thinking music for the poetry undergrad in us all.
