Dream life

Dream life

Posted on March 17, 2008

Dear readers,
As if it was not frantic enough to start a new job as the Montreal editor of FASHION (cocktail parties galore, lunch dates, an intoxication of beauty treatments, weekly trips to the hairdresser and dry cleaner), the next few weeks coming up are looking particularly intense.

First, there’s Easter weekend. I mean, I’d love to go skiing in Aspen or even Vermont, but I still haven’t found a chic skiing outfit, so I just won’t go. What if someone recognized me on the slopes, dressed like a cheap snow bunny with the old rags I kept from my teenage years? Instead, I might just start working on my summer wardrobe. Dries Van Noten’s collection at Holt Renfrew is on the top of my shopping list (1300 Rue Sherbrooke, holtrenfrew.com). But the girly pink cami dress at Urban Outfitters (have you noticed my favourite store’s new Saint-Denis locale? (4301 Rue St. Denis) might be more suited for my, hmm, budget–although in my culture we never talk about le fric.

Then, bien sûr, there’s Fashion Week (montrealfashionweek.ca) on March 25-28, where I’ll be flaunting some of my new summer marvels (if the storms leave us alone). Okay, I’d rather cover the Paris shows, but this year the partnership between Who’s Next, one of France’s best fashion trade shows, and Montreal Fashion Week might spark things up. Look out for more insider news later.

You might think fashion editors’ lives are glamorous and grandiose, but sometimes we become victims of our own dream life. So it’s good to take a break from that urban jungle and book a nature retreat with the boyfriend (whom we never get to see; we’re usually too busy chatting about lipstick with our BFs). So my man and I are heading to Vermont to unwind at the newly renovated Topnotch Resort and Spa (topnotchresort.com). Sleeping in, breathing clean, fresh air and strolling on the snowy paths of Stowe (and, if I find an outfit, exploring the slopes) will no doubt cure my fashion overdose.
