Preloved's reincarnation
Posted on January 6, 2009
By Jennifer Campbell
Long before everyone and her mother was touting green as the new black, Toronto’s Preloved was pumping out sustainable fashion from reclaimed fabrics. Their reassembled sweaters, former-trenchcoat jackets and dresses-from-khakis have been staples of a downtown girl’s wardrobe since 1995.

By Jennifer Campbell
Did y’all see Britney on Saturday? Those who didn’t catch Spears’ MTV true-superstar-story, Britney: For the Record, would do well to catch it one of the myriad times it will air this week. It’s candy of the best kind.

Fancy footwork
Posted on November 17, 2008
By Stephanie Trendocher
As a footwear fanatic, I like to step out in style (often resulting in me teetering, not-so-street-appropriate stilettos). But sometimes you just need to keep it casual and carefree like the oh-so-effortless French girls I spotted strutting around on my trip to Paris.

Carla’s got a brand new bag
By Stephanie Trendocher
Always impeccable in Dior, France’s first lady (and former supermodel, for those who’ve been under a rock), Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, knows how to make a fashion statement. But her latest fashion accessory comes not from the hands of couture designers, rather a sewing cooperative in Khayelitsha, South Africa, where Bruni-Sarkozy was given the multicoloured hessian and cotton bag. A vote for Chanel
Posted on November 5, 2008
By Siofan Davies
New Yorkers were firmly in the grips of election fever when I visited over the weekend (indeed reminders to vote punctuated many a conversation, even between strangers), so it was fitting that fashion got a bit more democratic with the arrival of Chanel’s Mobile Art exhibition. If the current economic climate makes purchasing the classic, and now 50-year-old, quilted 2.55 bag the exhibit celebrates a little difficult, not to worry, Chanel has made entrance free and accessible to all.

Rock 'n' Rowe
Posted on September 30, 2008
By Stephanie Trendocher
In contrast to her stark white collection from spring ’08, Ashley Rowe has taken a dramatic departure for fall with a collection simply titled “black.” With an invite from the former FASHION intern to the Miss Rowe trunk show taking place October 4th at Exhibition Place (285 Manitoba Dr) and all the buzz surrounding her label, I was eager to check out what she would have in store.

In a season where ‘it bags’ are on the out, and updated classics are investment worthy, Jessica Jensen (shopjessicajensen.com) is a go-to designer. A Ryerson graduate with previous stints at Calvin Klein and Michael Kors, Jensen has honed her talent with the best of them. Her collection is a stunning selection of clutches and totes that are both luxurious in quality and timeless in their appeal.

Autumn anticipation
Posted on September 29, 2008
By Natalia Ksiazek
On my way to work this morning, I finally felt a bit of fall in the air. It may have just been my anticipation to wear autumn’s chunky cropped-sleeved knits and peep-toe booties getting the best of me, but in any case, summer is definitely over and it got me thinking about my favourite fall piece: the coat. With so many styles to choose from this season, one doesn’t have to commit. Good thing too, because up-and-coming Canadian designer Mellinda-Mae Harlingten’s (mellinda-mae.com) latest coat collection makes it hard to pick just one. Continue...

Shop your boyfriend’s closet
Posted on September 24, 2008
By Stephanie Trendocher
After years of donning skinny jeans, I found myself yearning for a fresh updated look. Celebs were spotted trotting around town in wide leg styles, but it seemed that even Kate Moss couldn’t influence us to swap our stovepipes for looser fits.

Fashion(able) rocks

Since diamonds are a bit out of my price range, when it comes to sparkling accessories, crystals are it for now. But with Swarovski’s (swarovski.com) new fall collection, Passages of Night, I’ll happily wait for the higher-priced ice.

Is there anyone out there who doesn’t harbour a big crush on Isaac Mizrahi? Seriously, raise your hand. Well, it can’t be just me, because the designer’s web site (isaacmizrahiny.com), revamped earlier this year, seems tailor made for the Mizrahi enthusiast.

With all the summer sales happening right now, it’s a wonder I have any space left in my closet to accommodate all my recent purchases. But then I saw this Rakku shoe wheel (rakkudesigns.com) for $60 at my local Home Outfitters store (homeoutfitters.com), and it seemed that all my shoe storage woes were a thing of the past!

Secretary chic
Posted on August 8, 2008
By Jennifer Campbell
Around here, I am sometimes known, style wise, as the sexy secretary. I assume this is because of my predilection for pencil skirts as opposed to my filing skills, which are nil. Happily, the fall runways (to say nothing of Mad Men) were full of strict, administratively-inspired outfits.
