Island hopping
Posted on July 9, 2008
I recently spent an amazing weekend in Tofino at Roxy Surf Camp (slide show coming soon!), but the trip had me thinking of my favourite must-stops on Vancouver Island.
One such spot is Crave Beauty Boutique (162 Station St., Duncan, 250-748-1919, cravebeauty.ca) in beautiful Duncan, B.C.—halfway between Victoria and Nanaimo and the perfect detour during weekend trips to visit my boyfriend’s family on the coast.
Frustrated with having to trek to the city to test-drive new products, owner and makeup artist Cortnie Clarke opened the store in August 2007 and stocks her shelves with cult brands such as Kevyn Aucoin, Jaqua, DuWop and Napoleon Perdis. She’s also the exclusive island purveyor of beauty junkie fave Stila and loves the company’s Smudge Pots (shown, $21). “They’re great as an eyeliner or smudged all over the eyelid,” she says. Plus, “they’re completely waterproof—once it’s set, it’s not going anywhere.” Hey, it may be summer, but they don’t call this the wet coast for nothing.
