I don’t know about you, but since last summer’s big bang (I’m talking hair here, not the origin of mankind or something dirty), I’ve toyed with the idea of growing out my fringe.

My stylist, Deandra Vaughn of Barbarella Hair Saloon (3277 Main St., 604-876-1414), recently trimmed my eye-skimming bangs with a side slant that she promised would make the growing out process less painful. And while, sure enough, I’m starting to get used to the sight of my forehead again, sweeping my bangs to the side all day has them looking more greasy spoon than glossy soft by 5 o’clock. I set out on a hunt for a product to soak up the slick.

A stop at Vancouver’s Beautymark (1120 Hamilton St., Suite 103, 604-642-2294, beautymark.ca) had owner Marc Brunet spraying my roots with Bumble & Bumble’s Hair Powder (from $27), one of the few hair powders on the market that comes in black to match—duh—black hair.

Brunet also recommended Vancouver-based Principessa’s Bianco Breeze Hair & Body Powder (shown, $22). Milled to a super-fine dust, this one’s enhanced with Vitamin E, aloe, chamomile and calendula and is naturally talc free. Plus, the pink and black containers are now cuter and more eco-friendly than before, and some of its formulas are now paraben-free. So even if the Cattiva Diva hand cream ($17) and Dolce Dreams Whipped Body Lotion ($28) aren’t for my hair, at least now I have nice, non-greasy bangs and silky smooth skin.
