Day one: Spring into action

Day one: Spring into action

Posted on October 17, 2006

In a flurry of cabs, canapés and Canadiana (love the gold maple-leaf pendants on the Fashion Design Council of Canada girls!), Toronto’s L’Oréal Fashion Week was off to a stiletto-strutting start.

After downing a glass of bubbly at the Holt Renfrew media event with oodles of editors, stylists, buyers and the fashionable fabulous, I zoomed across town to the Muzik building at Exhibition Place…also known as Fashion Mecca for the next week. On my way into the shows, I air-kissed the Foxy gals, who had an adorable pink palace set up with their amazing jewellery line, Foxy Originals. I spied a pair of gold wing earrings, which will definitely be hanging from my lobes later this week. Now on to the shows…

8 p.m. Fragmented Time L’Oréal Spring Beauty Trends 2007
The L’Oréal Paris makeup and hair masterminds unveiled the looks and beauty trends for Spring 2007. The beauty models walked the runway outfitted in Canadian designers like Thien Le, Izzy Camilleri and Arthur Mendonça. Dressed in white from top to toe, the look was earth-angel ethereal. FASHION’s fave beauty look was the heavy blue eye paired with an ultra-pale lip…very ’60s and very DIY, perfect for cocktails with the new catch. FASHION wasn’t feeling the cornrowed crowns of the male models—a tad too K-Fed for us—but the crystal-flecked updos were perfectly partylicious.

9:30 p.m. Marie Saint Pierre
Running 15 minutes late (which is right on time in fashion speak), Montreal designer Marie Saint Pierre debuted her limited-edition Bratz doll line and her spring collection simultaneously. Models were sent down the runway in a palette of black and cream (very chic). While the dolls got a big mais oui with their mini-me designer clothes, FASHION could have done without them nestled in the teased-out hair of the models. The accordion pleating, Victorian ruffles and streamer-like details were FASHION faves (although one style watcher touted them as being “too French maid”). We are ready to embrace this trend for spring—no iron required!

Until my next jottings, my stylish spring chickens…
