There is nothing a FASHION editor likes more than a touch of luxe after a long day at the office. And when it comes to luxe, two bon mots come to mind: Michael Kors. Some may know him from Project Runway, but he is best known as one of America’s pre-eminent designers of luxury sportswear. His ad campaigns (think aviator-wearing, python bag–toting, sun-kissed, glowing glamour girls) perfectly capture the essence of the luxe lifestyle, PJs (that’s private jets, love) and all. So, when MK opened his third lifestyle store in Canada at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, the Tinsley Mortimer set from north of the border came out in droves.
We love the clean-lined fashion aesthetic of the store—think polished steel, white lacquer, glass exterior, polished white marble floors, Lucite shelves and zebra ottomans. Filled with the season’s latest loves—strappy sandals, Nantucket-inspired clutches and oversized watches—the store is an accessory addict’s Mecca. Most of the store houses handbags, shoes, belts, timepieces and sunglasses from the Michael Kors Collection label as well as from his diffusion lines, Michael Michael Kors and Kors Michael Kors. We couldn’t decide between the apple green tasseled shoulder bags, the Lilliputian-sized gold python envelope clutch or the “I am woman, hear me roar” giraffe-print totes, so we settled on a fabulous pair of white ballet flats with eye-popping jewelled-toe detail. As MK would say, “It’s not about fashion, it’s about having your own sense of style”.
