Fitness: Detox yoga, spinning and more on the menu at Spynga

The best part about participating in a month-long workout challenge is the motivation you gain. Now I know that I can physically achieve this goal, and that finding the time is really just a matter of making it a priority. It’s the finer details that make Spynga stand out: the complimentary towels, the lavender-scented cream used for a quick neck massage during savasana, and the eclectic play list (a spin class blaring the best of the ’90s—or worst, as the case may be—was an obvious crowd pleaser).

I wish I could blame my recent gluttony on the holidays, but really I’ve never needed an excuse to overindulge in cookies. Needing the extra push to get back in line with a healthy routine, the Dare To Do 30 challenge at Toronto’s Spynga’s (spynga.com) seemed like the perfect fit. Spynga offers a variety of classes, and I was excited to push myself back into shape with the studio’s unique approach to exercise. Here’s what I tried:

When Anna Sui’s Shakoha Boot for FitFlop ($205, net-a-porter.com) first landed on my desk, I’ll admit I was skeptical. Boots that promise to tone your muscles are what every lazy Canadian is pining for in the winter, particularly office workers. While I don’t suffer from issues like plantar fascilitis, osteoarthritis and restless leg syndrome—which the FitFlop is reported to relieve–I do work in an office, so I gave them a try. Read more »

Beyoncé is launching her first fragrance. Heat comes out at the end of January, inspired by all the pyrotechnics a Beyoncé concert demands. “A lot of my performances have had fire involved, so we thought ‘Heat,’” the singer told WWD. Suffice to say, the ads will be steamy. [WWD] Read more »

Chanel has a secret club of fashion friends who are tapped for feedback on collection previews. DJ Leigh Lezark revealed she test-drives products for Chanel, along with Caroline Sieber and Poppy Delevigne. How do we sign up? [The Cut]

The release of Mattel’s So in Style collection of black dolls, the first ever with wider noses, fuller lips and in a variety of skin shades, has been met with disappointment. Parents are saying the prevalence of green and blue eyes as well as long, fine hair is not representative of the race. Mattel is listening though, and is working on the fall 2010 collection, adding a doll with more of an Afro hairstyle. [WSJ] Read more »
