A cache of Audrey Hepburn’s clothes is up for auction

A Givenchy haute couture jade velvet cocktail dress from 1967. Audrey was photographed wearing the dress while dancing with Mel Ferrer.

A pristine collection of some of the most recognizable pieces worn by Audrey Hepburn during the 1950s and ’60s will be up for auction on December 8 in London. The curator of the Passion for Fashion sale, Kerry Taylor (kerrytaylorauctions.com), has some of the most elegant pieces on offer, many designed personally for Hepburn by couturier Hubert de Givenchy. Hepburn has often been regarded as Givenchy’s muse, though she is known to have worked alongside the famed designer, who credited her eye for selecting and sometimes toning down the detailing of his garments as the key ingredient in her timeless style. Lily Allen plans on leaving music to embark on a fashion gig with her sister. The two are set to open a shop called Lucy in Disguise (ha!) where clothes and accessories can be rented. “It’s about getting really nice clothes but letting people rent them for affordable prices so they can go out and feel like a million dollars and it won’t cost them a million dollars,” said the singer. Allen, the face of Chanel’s Coco Cocoon collection, is no rookie in the fashion biz, having already launched a jewellery collection and a clothing line called Lily Loves with British fast fashion house New Look. Fashion news: Dior Homme gets girly, Anthropologie teams up with Givaudan for perfume line, and more

Comments

dec09readsdiorDior Homme is branching out into a women’s denim collection for petite ladies. The collection, Petite Taille, will be based on the men’s collection, mixing premium denim with spandex. The denim line will hit Dior Homme stores worldwide in the new year with the price point ranging from $407 to $1,185. [WWD]

Anthropologie is adding another winning item to the store’s hit list. In a collaboration with luxury perfumer Givaudan, six scents have been developed under the A Rather Novel Collection. Five of the world’s top perfumers took their inspiration from global teas when brewing up this fresh batch. [The Cut]

Somehow, the junior’s store XOXO is getting away with having models strip down to their underwear in their holiday windows. Daily gawkers have been spotted trying desperately to get the models’ attention, who are instructed to ignore onlookers. How festive. [The Cut] Read more »

Christopher Kane has angered Fake Karl

Comments

Blogger Fake Karl cut up Christopher Kane for comments he made about his “fear of bloggers.” Kane said, “No one who wants to read a serious review of a show is going to look at what a 14-year-old thinks. But it has become more critical; people can say what they want about anyone on a blog without consequences and that’s quite scary.” Fake Karl’s rebuttal? “Mr. Kane is right to be afraid. Honest, critical opinions are a threat to his credibility as a designer- and so they should be. Nevermind whether they come from a 14 year old or a 140 year old (such as I). Perhaps he’ll start designing clothes rather than gimmicks, hm?” [Fake Karl, Vogue UK]

Browsing the Holt Renfrew holiday pop-up

dec09holtsFC4_lg

The Holts pop-up transformed the Fashion House condos location (560 King St. W., Toronto) into a holiday boutique filled with luxe, well-edited picks from Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Alexander Wang et al. Though the merch was heavy on winter (Sorel boots and house brand Cowichans, loads of flannel, and stocking stuffers like Dandi Maestre bracelets and Butter London nail polish), the atmosphere was stifling hot in the window-encased sunroom. (We’re hoping a much-needed fan will be in place by tomorrow.) Jurlique creams, sparkly Hanky Panky lingerie gift sets and colourful Theory sweaters were among the more feminine picks, though much of VP of fashion direction Barbara Atkin’s curated selection could be worn by men and women. (We especially liked the Christopher Sherman bow ties and classic Canada Goose parkas). The merch will be replenished daily until the shop closes on December 6–just follow the hot pink Holts truck.

The hours: Tonight till 7 p.m., Thursday 2 to 9 p.m., Friday 12 to 8 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 12 to 6 p.m. Click the images below to see a gallery of the shop.

Sonia Rykiel’s H&M lingerie spectacle featured bikes, geese and a marching band

The Sonia Rykiel lingerie line for H&M was presented at The Grand Palais in a runway show parade that included girls on bicycles, a flock of geese and a famed Croatian marching band. The models, outfitted in pale pink vintage-inspired bras, panties and garter belts, jived atop moving floats. Read more »
