The elusive Olsens

Comments

I woke up this morning to the sound of urban construction at about 6:45 a.m.—my loft is conveniently located between the sites of two new high-rise condos. As I began checking my phone for messages, I realized my memory card was almost full and I needed to purge some useless crap I have collected over the year. I began deleting unrecognizable phone numbers, dated memos and files, only to realize that just wasn’t cutting it. It then dawned on me to check my media file. Wow! I had everything: over 200 photos, music I’ve never listened to, and a number of episodes of Jpod. As I began looking through my photos, I came across ones I took at the Fall 2008 Chanel show back in late February. There were photos of the models parading around a carousel in a very beige collection of tweeds, bouclé and tulle (original). Then I came across a series of photos I took of the Olsen twins, who were sitting next to me in the front row. Worse, I took these photos while the show was unfolding. What was I doing taking photos of these alabaster white, enigmatic twins in the middle of one of the most important collections of the season?

L’Oreal Fashion Week: Insider report

Comments

This morning I was scheduled to do a CBC NewsWorld interview at 7 a.m. to discuss the launch of L’Oreal Fashion Week in Toronto. Strangers on a train

Comments

So, today I get up late after working all night on scripts for the new show. I hop in the shower, throw on my tracks and head out to grab my Illy dark roast coffee and non-dairy, no-white sugar-or-flour low-fat muffin (a.k.a cardboard) and head out on the train to the studio. As I board the train, I flick on my iPod, which is playing Feist’s latest album and begin dealing with 10 unanswered emails on my CrackBerry. I eventually look up from my messages to notice a group of ladies staring at me.

Behind the scenes of the L.A.M.B. show

Comments

So I barely make my flight yesterday afternoon to New York, only to find out when I arrive at LaGuardia airport that my luggage didn’t make the one hour non-stop flight with me from Toronto. I tell myself to stay calm and think fast. It is 4:55 and I have an interview set up with Gwen Stefani for L.A.M.B. in two hours. Anyone who knows me knows that, post 9/11, I wear tracks and flip flops to the airport to ensure a seamless dance with U.S. Customs and Immigration. I have nothing else with me and I am told that the bag containing all my armour to face the fashionistas at Bryant Park will be arriving at my apartment around midnight just in time for bed.

The Perfect Fall Coat

Comments

When August approaches, I get this defeatist attitude and make comments like, “It’s already winter.” I start to notice how night sets in minutes earlier with each passing week. And if that wasn’t bad enough, I begin to feel the lovely first signs of seasonal affective disorder. On the bright side, fall is my favourite fashion season, and one way I can combat the terminal winter condition is to piece together the perfect winter wardrobe.
