Frugalistas everywhere will agree that $50 is the perfect number. Whether it’s a pair of shoes, jeans, a jacket, a sweater, a dress, if you can get it for $50, you know you are paying a very reasonable price. Buying locally designed clothes from boutiques is something we all probably wish we could do more of, but in reality small labels can often only produce small quantities and boutiques pay high rents—both of which drive up prices.

So what if you could get the best of both worlds—locally designed and boutique items for under $50? Read more »

There are some clothing items we’ve purchased that are well-worn, well-loved and that cause a bit of heartbreak when we realize it’s time to let them go. But the truth is, those few precious pieces make up only a fraction of what’s in our closets.

March is always a funny month here in Vancouver; the weather is always taking us by surprise. It’s sunny one minute and snowy the next. And it wasn’t until a week ago that I started to see a significant decrease in 50 to 80 per cent off notices in my inbox. But I truly realized how desperate this situation is, when a recent visit to one of my regular Main Street haunts yielded an ominously empty response to the friendly question, “Hey! What’s new?”

Vancouver: Eating and shopping at the Shangri-La

Comments

feb09shangri_545I just got back from a holiday, and somehow while I was away, it seems that a 61-storey skyscraper popped up out of nowhere into Vancouver’s skyline. Of course I’m joking—the new Living Shangri-La (1128 W. Georgia St., 604-689-1120, shangri-la.com) has been a long time coming. Vancouverites have slowly watched the building climb higher and higher over the last few months, becoming the tallest building our fair city has to offer.

Vancouver: Link to the past

Well, I’d have to say that the most exciting new thing to hit Vancouver on the fashion front recently, is of course Terri Potratz Larry knitwear. It’s no wonder Jennifer Campbell scooped up the story for the Style Snack blog here on fashionmagazine.com. Terri was my fierce but friendly competitor in the Reporter Search competition and I must give it up to her for such an impressive accomplishment with Larry. Read more »
