Powerful enough to arouse raw emotion, evoke memories and trigger intimacy, fragrances are the most important weapon in a woman’s arsenal of products and potions.  Carmela’s Profumeria (12531-102 Ave, 780-455-3336), on the high street in Glenora, is the place to shop for rare scents and couture fragrances, including the infamous Joy by Jean Patou.

The secret weapon behind Edmonton’s best tressed ladies and gents is uber-hairstylist Paulina Truong, who is to Edmonton what Frédéric Fekkai is to New York or Philip B. to L.A. and after 15 remarkable years in the industry (see her work at left), Truong has finally opened her own salon, Blue Gemini Hair Studio (14115-23 Avenue, 780-436-4783, BlueGemini.ca).

My life changed dramatically after the birth of my first son, but I maintained my sense of style with ease. Stilettos? Almost exclusively. Bimonthly mani/pedi? Not a problem. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and as far as I’m concerned, the bigger the better.  Located in the historic LeMarchand Mansion with a spectacular view of Edmonton’s River Valley, Kline Fine Jewellery & Design (11523-110 Ave., 780-482-6159, klinejewellery.com) is the address for exquisite sparklers that are sure to set your heart aflutter.  The owner is former Edmonton Eskimo’s linebacker and six-time Grey Cup winner, Tom Towns.

Edmonton: Mayfair lady

The shoe bootie, which I am affectionately calling the shootie, is the quintessential shoe of the season. I can’t wait to wear mine with a cardigan and pencil skirt à la Michael Kors. But the shootie is not just about secretary chic; it will also add a dose of punk to my fall wardrobe when worn with leggings and leather. What other shoe (or boot, for that matter) can claim to be quite so versatile? This gorgeous pair from Donald J Pliner ($525), found at Mayfair Shoes, is a well-stacked heel above the rest.
