TIFF gallery: Rachel Weisz, James Franco et al trade interviews for gift bags at Holts’ Variety Studio

Comments

Rachel Weisz at Holt Renfrew's Variety Studio

While Holt Renfrew didn’t have their annual film festival bash this year, they did try something new with the Variety Studio. The in-store area, heavily blocked off from snooping shoppers, was a hub for talent to come in and get interviewed for Variety.com–and get a little something something to take home. The full complement of talent who stopped by would be tiresome to list, but some that made us a little giddy were Marion Cotillard, Rachel Weisz, James Franco and Julian Schnabel. Take a look at the photos below–they’re almost enough to make us not yearn just a little bit for last year’s party.

TIFF party talk: Kelly Rowland almost lies to us about shopping on Fashion’s Night Out

Comments

Photography by Elli Stuhler

On the red carpet at the star-studded Cinema Against AIDS event, we had the chance to chat up Kelly Rowland . When we talk Fashion’s Night Out, she almost tries to cover up that she did some shopping herself. Not that it’s a crime.

What brings you here tonight? “AmfAR brings me here tonight, Kenneth Cole brings me here tonight, their passion brings me out here tonight, finding a cure brings me out here tonight, so I’m excited to be here tonight amongst so many great people, people with passion and I’m excited to see what the night holds.

Did you come to Toronto specifically for the event? “I did, we’re all flying back tonight.” Read more »

TIFF party pics: Kenneth Cole talks mix-and-match black, plus red carpet snaps of Kelly Rowland, Martin Sheen and more

Kenneth Cole on the red carpet. Photography by Elli Stuhler

There’s nothing like celebrity endorsement to open hearts (read: wallets) for a good cause. So when Kenneth Cole, Kelly Rowland, Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez signed up to attend the event, so did the majority of the Porche-driving population of Rosedale.

The result was some yummy black tie style, and some yummier conversations with Kenneth Cole and Kelly Rowland. See my Q&A with Cole after the jump.

TIFF party talk: Peaches Geldof talks Karl Lagerfeld, post-modernism and, um, Legend of Zelda

Comments

When it comes to a party with on-site battle tag without being a 12th birthday party, who would be a better fit to to DJ than Peaches Geldof?

Her name doesn’t come without mild (okay, major) undertones of her extreme hipster-ness, It girl-ness, and–dare we say it– riding on daddy’s fame-ness, but if you’ve looked at her Twitter feed lately you’d know that at heart she’s just a nerd  with a deep affinity for 2001: A Space Odyssey. TIFF snaps: M.I.A. pauses, ever so briefly, for our cameras at the Roosevelt Room

Comments

Oh, M.I.A., we never talk anymore. Photography by Kira Crugnale

M.I.A.’s in town supporting Our Day Will Come by Romain Gavras, the same French director who did her creepy ginger genocide vid for Born Free. After the premiere the crew headed to the Roosevelt Room for an after party, but M.I.A. wasn’t in much of a mood to stop and chat. Makes sense, if the film was anything like a two-hour version of Born Free, we wouldn’t be either. With M.I.A. and Gavras was an entourage of well-heeled French women and Ed Banger records founder Busy P.

Moments after appearing on the red carpet for Stone, Milla Jovovich and Robert De Niro sneaked out the back of the theatre at their own premiere. [Toronto Life]

Just when you think your evening is a bust, you just might run into Geoffrey Rush at Parkdale watering hole Salvador Darling. Mr. Rush met the bar’s owner in the Caribbean, stopped by for a drink, and bought this lucky blogger a dirty martini and split a cig with her outside. [She Does The City] Read more »

TIFF party pics: Martin Sheen shows us his underwear and Paul Haggis kisses Josh Brolin

Comments

Seeing jokester Paul Haggis kissing Josh Brolin is almost too good to be true. Seeing this the same evening as Martin Sheen showing cameras his underwear just isn’t fair.

The red carpet at the the Artists for Peace and Justice Fundraiser for Haiti event last night at the Toro After Dark space was, without a doubt, the most fun step and repeat in the city. Haggis turned to Brolin to give him a big smoocher on the mouth, which was followed by Brolin exclaiming, “that’s it, my career is OVER!”

This was probably the second best moment of the evening, which was promptly followed by Martin Sheen being encouraged to show us his Ellen Degeneres-gifted briefs–in exchange for a $1,000 donation to Haiti. To his publicist’s utter chagrin (who, for the record, was somewhat like a real life Lloyd from Entourage) he turned around, undid belt, dropped a bit of trou, turned back and showed us those briefs. But it’s for a good cause right? Read more »
