Healthier fries? Yes please!

Photography by istockphoto.com

Though I consider myself a fairly health-conscious person, summer days spent on the patio have caused me to indulge a bit too heavily in sweet potato fries. (Yes, the vitamin A contents supposedly makes them healthier than regular French fries, but the decision to order them is never guilt-free.) T-Fal has apparently found a way for me to enjoy my snacks without constantly thinking about hitting the treadmill afterwards. Read the rest of this entry »

I wanna be a supermodel

The sun was beaming on our shoulders and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, but last week, the real heat was inside Toronto’s Metropolitan Hotel, where 20 girls—including CNTM winner Meaghan Waller–anxiously awaited the start of this year’s installment of Elmer Olsen Models’ Bootcamp 2 Bigtime. Every year, the agency’s top new faces are invited to bootcamp to learn how to walk the runway and meet with international agents. One girl stood out–and not just because of her fiery red hair or stunning Alexander McQueen ankle boots (but both sure helped). We later learned she was Elise Hélène Gatschene, a participant in last year’s bootcamp who took a turn on the fall runways of YSL, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton and Dries Van Noten. She was back to speak to this year’s crowd on her experiences modelling in Paris over the past year. We talked to Elise Hélène and the recruits about their favourite models, their upcoming plans, and the secret to walking in heels.

Linsay Willier came in a close second to winner Meaghan Waller after both emerged with some serious strutting in the competition’s final fashion show.

Which part of this experience was the most fun? Which was the most stressful?
“The most fun – the travelling was the most fun! Going to The Bahamas and New York were amazing experiences.

The Final Exit: Nikita

After breaking down in tears at the sight of her picture, Nikita Kiceluk’s drifting confidence was enough for the judges to lose faith in her too.

Which part of this experience was the most fun? Which was the most stressful?
“The most stressful would definitely be the long hours. It just plays on you like crazy and you’re so tired all of the time. It’s probably the most stressful, aside from eliminations because oh man, I could pull my hair out at those things. Read the rest of this entry »

A purifying scent to pop in your purse

I’ve been a fan of Fruits & Passion ever since my nose grazed the brand’s bubble bath when I was ten. However, when I saw this Purifying Waterless Hand Soap ($7, fruits-passion.com) images of soapy dry hands crept into my mind as I mentally processed the word combination of “waterless” and “hand soap.” Still, the tube promised an orange-cantaloup scent, so I was eager to try it. 5-minute summer beauty

Summer is all about hot weather, humidity and having better places to be than in front of the mirror, so we’re always happy to have a few tricks up our sleeve for creating quick, polished beauty looks. L’Oréal Paris’ official makeup artist, Eddie Maleterre, and official hair artist and colourist, Eric Del Monaco, took us through this easy routine: Read the rest of this entry »

The Final Exit: Rebeccah

With the judges feeling she was more suited to the stage than the runway, Rebeccah packed her bags this week.

Which part of this experience was the most fun? Which was the most stressful?
“The most fun part of the experience was the makeover episode. They gave me an awesome haircut. I still need to figure out how to do the cowlick and I’ve got to cut off about an inch and dye my roots again but I love it. It suits me a lot better than what I had before. And also, going to The Bahamas, that was awesome. Read the rest of this entry »

Kerry Connelly gets Gorgeous

may09kc_lg“Most women have one wedding day. I feel like I get to have three!”

Kerry Connelly, media professional-turned-mezzo-soprano, is referring to that princessy feeling she gets from singing on stage wearing luscious Hugo Nicholson gowns while pursuing her dream of becoming a professional performer. Sounds rather fitting for a show called Gorgeous. Kerry answered a few of our questions before hitting the stage tonight at the Jane Mallet Theatre (St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, 27 Front St. E, tickets available at 416-366-7723, $50). Follow your nails

I’ve made up a word to describe the peppy colours of this summer’s beauty palettes: candy-licious (def’n: a tone so cheeky you just want to lick it like a lollipop). Unfortunately for my taste buds, most makeup isn’t edible. However, Revlon has done the next best thing to bring these amusing shades to life with the launch of its Fruitful Temptations Scented Nail Enamel ($6, at drugstores). Read the rest of this entry »
