Fashion news: London looters, Erin Fetherston goes to Juicy Couture and Kelly Cutrone Takes to YouTube

Comments

Baptiste Giabiconi and Lara Stone fake rob a Chanel boutique.

Kell on Earth hasn’t even hit Canada yet, but we’ll be lucky to get the first season, because plans for a second seem to be lagging. Kelly Cutrone, clearly not waiting around, has instead set up a YouTube channel, KellyCutroneTV, where you can get “daily missives” from the People’s Revolution team. [Styleite] Read our  interview with Kelly Cutrone.

There has been a string of burglaries hitting London’s high end shops, and last night Chanel was the target (clearly the burglers have good taste). Over the past two years other retail stores including Dolce & Gabbana, Harvey Nichols, Anya Hindmarch and Salvatore Ferragamo have been robbed, but police haven’t confirmed yet if it’s the same high-end hitters that keep looting the shops. Kate Moss and Mario Testino are teaming up to release a book. The 1,500 limited-edition signed copies will go for a cool 305 Euros. [Fabsugar UK via Stylelist] Read more »

The dusty Ungaro drama is far from settling, with the announcement today that Estrella Archs leaving the label. “Estrella Archs announces that she has left her job as chief designer of Emanuel Ungaro due to irreconcilable differences related to the creative direction of the brand,” a spokesperson for the designer confirmed. [Vogue UK]

Anna Wintour spoke at the Pratt Institute last night in a tribute to Irving Penn, and we got a glimpse into the softer side of the Vogue editor-in-chief, calling Penn a “seductive” man who she immediately had “an intellectual crush [on].”  She concluded her speech quite emotionally, saying “He made me a better editor. He was always in my head…. Irving’s gifts to us will not end.” [Fashionista] Read more »

Rumour has it that Giles Deacon may take over as the revolving-door role of creative director for Emanuel Ungaro. Deacon was spotted with Ungaro owner Asim Abdullah last Friday in Paris, and in the world of fashion gossip that obviously means they’re working together. [Vogue UK]

Catherine McNeil‘s girlfriend, Aussie MTV host Ruby Rose, apparently confirmed their engagement to Women’s Day and they were both in L.A. recently sporting engagement rings. Rose later said on Twitter “I have never in my life spoken to womans day, i have never even met anyone from that magazine?” [The Cut, Herald Sun]

Supermodel favourite Azzedine Alaïa said that he’d like to do a collection for H&M and we would like to see it happen. [Fashionista]

TheOutnet has responded to Friday’s $1 crash and burn sale, saying, “…we are very sorry to all those who didn’t get to buy anything at the sale, but delighted for the thousands of lucky ones amongst you that did walk away with a £1/$1 bargain from theOutnet. With each event we are working hard to fix issues that arise, and want to say that we fully intend to offer you further bargain shopping opportunities in the future.” Do you forgive and forget about those $1 no-boutins? The fashion world went crazy last week after seeing Lady Gaga carrying a marker-customized Hermès Birkin. Artist Terence Koh has released images of himself drawing more Japanese characters on the coveted handbag, so that it’s now entirely covered. Do we smell a cry for collaboration? [Fashionista]

We have celebs to thank for the return of shapewear; Oprah, Gwyneth Paltrow and  Jessica Alba have chatted about their underpinnings and Lady Gaga is just plain wearing corsetry as clothes. All this, ahem, exposure has apparently sparked 10.6% rise in sales since March 2009. [WWD]

Fashion news: Eau de Bruce Willis, Marc Jacobs’ book store, and Evan Biddell wants you to buy that dress you borrowed

Evan Biddell is tired of a culture of rampant dress-borrowing. He tweeted this morning: “ok ok, that was a little harsh, but 90% of my clients are Fabulous women, and if they are all borrowing outfits, I only sell 10% of the time.” Then he asks: “HOW IS THIS SUPPORTING CANADIAN FASHION??????????” His solution? “maybe its a matter of becoming organized? we could all have the same policy? you wear it, you buy it. sounds fair to me.” After all, exposure doesn’t mean much if it never turns into a sale. Biddell’s frustration may stem from this weekend’s Juno Awards–which will surely feature many borrowed frocks. He followed up his comments with “does anyone watch the canadian pop music awards anyways?” [Evan Biddell Twitter]

Another day, another celebrity fragrance line. Except this time, it’s a male celebrity creating a signature scent: Bruce Willis is launching a fragrance set to be released in July. Eau d’ie hard maybe? [Styleite] Read more »

Malcolm McLaren, the manager of the Sex Pistols and also known as the “godfather of punk,” passed away yesterday after battling cancer. The father to Vivienne Westwood’s son Joe Corré and the man who opened her famous Kings Rd. shop in London, Westwood paid tribute to McLaren, saying “[He was] a very charismatic, special and talented person. The thought of him dead is really something very sad.” [Vogue UK]

Milan’s fall 2010 fashion week was a bumpy one after Anna Wintour reportedly asked that the week be shortened to three days, leaving designers frantic to change their show times. This time round, the heavy hitters like Armani and Prada have taken a stand and announced that they’ll show evenly across the seven days, so that media and buyers have to stay for the entire week. Giorgio Armani said that the agreement demonstrates that Italians “are perfectly able to assert [them]selves without fear.” [The Cut]

Leighton Meester‘s Blair Waldorf is known for her hairstyles (do you miss those headbands from the early seasons?) as much as her clothes, so it’s no surprise that Herbal Essences has snatched her up as the company’s global ambassador. Meester will appear in advertisements, on the Herbal Essences website, and on the company’s Facebook page. [Stylite]

Isabel Marant, the Parisian-based designer, is opening up shop today just south of the border in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood. “For me, New York was the first city I could think of after my shops in Paris,” Marant told WWD. “It was also the way to really express my whole universe.” [Stylelist]
