Season 5 of Mad Men may be delayed until 2012, but thanks to Banana Republic‘s exclusive, 65-piece capsule collection by the show’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, we’ve got something to tide us over until then. Since its release last week, we’ve started feeling pangs of Draper-fever and so, in an attempt to calm ourselves, we chatted with Bryant about the collection and her work on the hit show. Asian persuasion: Tips and tricks for beautifying an Asian face from one of Estée Lauder’s top artists
It’s not often I’m asked, “Do you speak Chinese?” when I walk into an interview. Yet this is precisely what happened when I met Alan Pan, the London-based Estée Lauder makeup artist, in Vancouver last month. Pan thinks I’m from Ming Pao, the Chinese newspaper, and while I speak Mandarin, it’s hardly at beauty-interview level. Nevertheless, Pan provides me with makeup tips for Asian faces, offering tidbits on avoiding common errors.

Yaletown beauty institution Beautymark is celebrating a decade in business with a move—100 steps away. The new bi-level location (1268 Pacific Blvd., 604-642-2294, beautymark.ca) next to the Roundhouse community centre now offers more beauty treatments, including mini Dermalogica facials and the always-popular brow shaping appointments by resident expert Alisha Noon. Of course, there’s still plenty of beauty loot to spritz, test and dab.

Vancouver: Spring sunnies

No matter what the forecast says, I’d like to believe that the sun’s hiding just around the corner. And if not—well, I can always take a little spring-break vacation, non? Either way, I feel justified splurging on a pair of Linda Farrow for Agent Provocateur sunglasses (from $375).
