The daily steal: Floral-print mini, $22

While we still have April showers to get through before we hit May flowers, it’s perfectly okay to cheat and start your collection of floral prints early. The deep pinks and rusty browns in this floral skirt ($22, canada.forever21.com) would look cozy accompanied by some tights and layered knits, in case those April showers are chilly.

And we didn’t think Parasuco looked a day over 30

feb10parasuco2_lg
To celebrate their 35 years in fashion, Canadian denim label Parasuco (parasuco.com) has produced a 200-page limited edition coffee table book featuring their Spring 2010 collection. Shot in lush Vietnam by Canadian photographer Raphael Mazzucco, it is available at Parasuco stores for, coincidently, $35.

The daily steal: Red jacket, $45

FMsteal0210redcoat_lg

Years ago, when I saw Paris, je t’aime, my desire to own a red coat was born. In Isabel Coixet’s short, Bastille, a man’s wife passes away, and, haunted by the memory of her red coat, his heart skips a beat whenever he catches a glimpse of a woman in a similarly-hued jacket. This BB Dakota ($45, offthewallclothing.com) has an easy fit that’s perfect for everyday wear and a crimson shade that’s perfect for burning your memory into a man’s brain.

Yoga for Olympians (and you, too)

feb09yoga_lg

As everyone pours into yoga studios this month to pursue their 2010 resolution to trim down, those who have had enough of the post-holiday crowd should stay home with Eoin Finn’s latest yoga DVD, The Pursuit of Happy Hips ($25, at Lululemon and Chapters. Visit blissology.com). Along with partner Insiya Rasiwala and some past and present Olympic athletes, Finn shows the whole-body benefits of strengthening the hips through the practice of yoga. Focused on preparing the body for the rigours of winter sports, the video is just as beneficial for those who are more likely to curl up on the couch than hit the hill when the snow falls. These Steve Madden T-strap sandals ($50, brownsshoes.com), with their rich suede look, done in a happy pink hue, will take me from winter into spring. And at over 60 per cent off I won’t be worried about my slush fund getting frozen.

We match up Tom Ford’s latest scents with the men of A Single Man

After seeing Tom Ford’s spectacular directorial debut, A Single Man, my friend compared it to a two-hour long perfume commercial. She meant this as a compliment. The film contains characters of real dimension and weight, and sex appeal, which can also be said of the fragrances Ford himself has created. Ford had a hand in the wardrobes of George (Colin Firth) and Kenny (Nicholas Hoult) for the film, but it is also easy to imagine them and the other male characters enveloped in a fragrance from the new four-piece Tom Ford Private Blend White Musk Collection ($210 each, at Harry Rosen).

The daily steal: Pleated flats, $32

When the Fall ’09 collections debuted, I drooled over the rich satin folds at Balenciaga, especially an indigo and black skirt–traditionally a tricky shade combo. These pleated satin flats from Urban Outfitters ($32, visit urbanoutfitters.com) are an effortless way to try out the combination and add sheen to basic holiday black. They also come in burgundy, black and a peach that will carry you into spring. Now if only my party date was half as handsome as Nicolas Ghesquière.

The daily steal: Little black dress, $32

FMsteal1209lbd_lgIt’s a common maxim that a girl can never have too many little black dresses. With all the errands that get added to your list at this time of year, it can be hard to get to the dry cleaner in time to ensure that last night’s eggnog spill is done away with in time for the next bacchanal. The great thing about this LBD from Roxy ($32, offthewallclothing.com), besides the price, is that it’s made from a very washable cotton twill, so no third party involvement is required.
