Daily Steal

The daily steal: Clear umbrella, $19

Living in notoriously rainy Vancouver, I refuse to let dreary weather dampen my mood (or my hair). Instead, I’ve made it my mission to procure the most cheerful waterproof accessories I can get my hands on. This see-through bubble umbrella from Urban Outfitters (urbanoutfitters.com) is only $19 and you can pick from 5 colours (if totally clear is a colour). My day is brighter already!

Vancouver: Test driving the mani/pedis at Cambie Village’s Muse salon

I adore nail polish. Scratch that–I am hopelessly in love with it. I am a girl who has devotedly had polish on my fingers everyday since the eighth or ninth grade. Because of this, I consider going for a professional manicure or pedicure to be an occasional luxury. However, when I heard about Muse salon (3020 Cambie St., Vancouver, 604-876-5580, musesalon.ca) that opened at the end of January, with manicures from $20 and pedicures from $30, I couldn’t help myself. The daily steal: Liquid eyeliner, $6

If someone had told me a few weeks ago that I’d find my latest eye make up obsession at the Real Canadian Super Store, I would have stuck my nose up at them and then back into my Sephora catalogue. But it’s true: the Fine Liquid Eyeliner by Joe Fresh Beauty (joe.ca) handles like a dream and will surely become your best friend and go-to product for creating whatever look you desire, from Catwoman to Kat Von D. It dries quickly, is amazingly long-lasting, and (drumroll, please!) can be yours for a mere $6.

The lingerie is in the mail

feb10pantypost_lg

Let’s face it: February is bound to be an absurdly hectic month for female Vancouverites. Whether it be work, school, family, socializing, or involvement in Olympic festivities, squeezing obligatory Valentine’s beauty routines into our calendars seems like a stretch (manis and pedis and waxing, oh my!). So where does lingerie and sweetheart shopping fit in? Answer: It probably doesn’t. Luckily, Panty by Post (pantybypost.com) offers a subscription ($155) that gets you an adorable new pair of skivvies once a month for the entire year-a cute gift for any gal, or, if you need something for your fella‚ try the new Briefs in a Box bamboo eco-package (one pair a month for two months for $45).
