In 1909, French chemist Eugène Schueller launched La Société Française des Teintures Inoffensives pour Cheveux to create hair dye for modern women. The company was later renamed L’Oréal, after Schueller’s first hair dye, created in 1907. The chemist’s groundbreaking formula worked quickly and nourished the hair, using science to affect the quality of beauty products. In 1929, Imédia became the first fast-acting oxidation dye and single process hair dye on the market.
