COLOUR BLINDING
Vibrant colours mixed with metal look softer on the skin with a shimmery finish, says Pecheux. “They’re more forgiving, so it’s easier to experiment with colours you might not wear otherwise,” he says. He advises rimming eyes in black and stacking a metallic green or blue liner next to it for a striking contrast. Backstage at Rodarte’s Spring 2012 show, makeup artist James Kaliardos rounded silvery midnight blue shadow above the crease, creating a dramatic half-moon shape that opened up the gaze. Even lips look stunning when given a purplish sheen, as Pecheux displayed at Peter Som’s Fall 2011 show, blending rose-gold and silver pigments over a dark crimson lipstick for a moment of futuristic glamour. De Mey says earthy tones such as chocolate and mocha acquire an “expensive edge” when topped with gold cream eyeshadow—place it in the centre of your lid and fan it outward with your finger. Thanks to their lightweight textures, these shades can be layered for a more intense look.
