Afternoon beauty fix: Update your makeup for spring without breaking the bank!

How can I update my makeup bag for spring without breaking the bank?
I love the notion of jumpstarting the season with your makeup choices, especially when exciting and inspiring colours are popping up in new nail polishes and lipsticks. However, showing some restraint while scouring the stores will save you a pretty penny and possibly even buyer’s regret. This spring’s makeup palette includes both bright punches of colour and ginger-y shades of gold—you could easily update your makeup bag by purchasing a single neon lipstick and a set of golden shades for your eyes. Blue-based lipsticks are slightly more subdued than fiery reds and are easier to wear every day. For a long-lasting petal-pink lipstick, try Maybelline 14HR SuperStay lipstick in “Eternal Rose” ($12, at drugstores) or go brighter with Joe Fresh Matte lipstick in “Bubble Gum” ($6, at Joe Fresh)—it’s a nice neon shade that’s ready for a night out. When it comes to your eyes, gild your gaze with M.A.C Cosmetics Crushed Metallic Pigment x 4 in “Aloha” ($40, maccosmetics.com). The crushed pigment comes as a stackable set of four gold shades that can be mixed, matched, or worn alone with a quick sweep across your lids.
