The party to be at on Friday night—if you’re an A-list celebrity in Los Angeles, that is—was one hosted by Stella McCartney for the music video premiere of Paul McCartney’s “My Valentine.” The video (which stars Johnny Depp and Natalie Portman) was watched by everyone from Gwen Stefani to Gwyneth Paltrow, making the exclusive screening quite the red carpet event. While the majority of guests wore Stella McCartney Spring 2012 pieces, bright shades of lipstick were just as popular a style statement. Kristen Stewart and Zooey Deschanel certainly stood out above the rest, with almost-identical makeup that was focused on raspberry-coloured lips and heavily lashed eyes.
Deschanel—the poster child for the doe-eyed look—played up the very feminine bow on her Stella McCartney dress by lining her upper and lower lashes for maximum wide-eyed effect. (Plus, there are likely a few false lashes in there for even more volume.) But her look also follows the beauty rule of focusing on one feature: even with the full lashes, Deschanel’s berry-red lip takes the spotlight.
However, it was Stewart’s flushed cheeks and lips that really stood out: how often does she look so pretty in pink on the red carpet? Stewart’s eyes were made up similarly to Deschanel’s, though with a bit of smudged liner to complement her thick lashes. (It also allowed her a bit of the grungy girl aesthetic she loves to wear.) But the rosy lipstick and hint of blush pulled Stewart’s look back into fresh-faced territory—and we’d love to see her styled like this again.
