The key to a perfect smoky eye is starting with a strong foundation on the eye, and then slowly building up layers of colour. Start with an eye primer, like M.A.C’s Prep + Prime Eye, to create an even base: it acts as a glue to help the colour stick to your lids and stay put all night long. Next, apply a creamy liner (I used Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama gel eyeliner in “Blackest Black”) with a brush to the top and bottom lash lines, and smudge with your fingers to mess it up slightly. Set the liner with a matte, black eyeshadow and then gradually buff on more black shadow with a dense, fluffy brush, until you reach your desired level of sultriness. To complete the look, add a bit of hairspray to a brow brush or a clean toothbrush and comb the brows upwards.
