If there’s one thing the fashion and beauty world loves, it’s a good collaboration. So nail polish and fragrance lovers will be more than pleased to know that Essie has collaborated with Ralph Lauren to create an exclusive set of nail polishes for the Big Pony fragrance collection for women. It’s a move that makes perfect sense—each of the four Big Pony fragrances is packaged in such bright colours, so matching nail polish seems pretty much inevitable.
But wait! There’s even more goodness! Essie Canada has taken the collaboration one step further by having their lead nail artist, Rita Remark, create a unique nail art look to pair with each fragrance and polish set. The nail art designs complement the Big Pony fragrance personalities—sporty, sensual, free-spirited and stylish—and make use of the polish colours, which were created by Essie Weingarten herself. I sat down with Remark earlier this week to talk about the Essie polishes and the Ralph Lauren Big Pony fragrance collection for women—and to film a tutorial for the exclusive nail art looks. So what was the process like for creating these four nail art looks?
“Well, for inspiration I looked to the Ralph Lauren fashion. I wanted something that would maintain a clear message between both the nails and the fragrances and it was also really helpful that the fragrances themselves carry so much personality on their own. For instance, when you think of a free-spirited woman [for Big Pony fragrance Yellow #3], the first thing that came to mind was “flower child—and it also happened to help that the fragrance itself was a floral. So, the only thing that I could think to do [for the nail art] was flowers.”
Okay, cool. Which one of these nail art looks represents you the best?
”I think we try to imagine that we’re [a different] person on several different days of the week. Some days I like to think I’m stylish, some days I like to think I’m sporty, but probably at my core, I’m the free-spirited girl.
How long was the process for developing these looks?
“The process was an enjoyable afternoon. I sat down and did all of my research. I looked through the clothing line, I smelled all the fragrances, I tested them out on my friends. I like to envision I was creating each nail for a friend that I thought would perfectly match it.”
The Ralph Lauren Big Pony fragrance collection for women Essie sets are on sale this month at across Canada at the Bay and Sears for $47. Each set comes packaged in a charming bag and includes a 50 ml fragrance and matching Essie nail polish.
