Considering the switch to eco-friendly makeup and skincare? Introducing luxury beauty e-boutique Clementine Fields

Clementine Fields organic beauty online store

With recent reports of favourite lipstick brands containing worrying amounts of lead, there’s no better a time to consider the switch to eco-friendly beauty products. And for those obsessed with online shopping, buying all-natural and organic beauty products just got a whole lot easier: a new online beauty boutique, Clementine Fields, opened to the public last week.

The Toronto-based site offers a range of all-natural and organic beauty products for skin, hair, face and body—and ships directly to doorsteps across North America. (Plus, free shipping for Canadian customers making orders over $50!) What makes Clementine Fields stand out from other online beauty shops is its selection: the well-curated list of luxury brands all meet the standards of the Enviornmental Working Group, an American watchdog group that monitors toxic ingredients in products, among other eco concerns.

In terms of available brands, Clementine Fields include fan favourites like Tata Harper and One Love Organics but we’re most excited about their exclusive-to-Canada offerings. Read more »

How do I make my at-home blowout frizz-free in the summer?
Something key to remember is that the environment in which you blowdry your hair has a large impact on how your hair will react to heat styling. It’s advisable to blowdry your hair in a dry environment, i.e. not the bathroom you just steamed up with your shower! Next, make sure your hair is actually completely dry when you have completed the blowout. Any damp areas are likely to react to the air temperatures around you, which seldom results in smooth strands. Always finish hair with an anti-humidity spray, such as Oribe Imperméable Anti-humidity Spray ($44, at Donato Salon & Spa), which utilizes copolymer technology to shield hair from the impact of humidity, and also contains a UV filter to protect hair. Go behind the scenes with Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson and Almay »

In terms of famous mother-daughter duos, is there a pair more precious than Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson? They both have sparkling smiles, contagious laughs and a knack for starring in films that become instant classics. (We’re not the only ones who could watch Death Becomes Her and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days on repeat, right?) As for their relationship, red carpet snaps and paparazzi shots alike would lead you to believe that they’re an IRL Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Well, after speaking to the pair on the phone earlier this month, I can indeed confirm: Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson finish each other’s sentences, make each other laugh and have a genuine mother-daughter rapport that makes you wish they’d adopt you. All of this is to say, it’s no wonder that Almay selected them as brand ambassadors for Mother’s Day. (Psst, it’s Sunday, May 12!) Kate’s been working with Almay since 2010, but this is Goldie’s first involvement with the brand, so I asked the duo about their thoughts on makeup, growing up and more. Read more »

Side parts, middle parts, no parts: Backstage tricks for achieving the top hair trends for spring

Side parts hair parting

What’s in a hair part? A whole lot, according to the Spring 2013 runways. Celia Ellenberg reports.

To part, or not to part? That was the question that many coiffing stars seemed to be asking themselves this season as deep side parts, centre parts and no parts at all gave equally convincing performances on the spring runways. Why all the deliberate differentiation? “When I choose the part for a designer at a show or on a shoot—whether it’s a side or centre part, clean or messy—I always think about the character we’re conveying, the identity of the brand and every other little detail,” says Redken creative consultant Guido Palau. What do you do to celebrate a 15-year career as one of Britain’s leading fashion designers? If you’re Matthew Williamson, you collaborate with Benefit Cosmetics to create a limited edition makeup kit, that’s what! The exclusive-to-Sephora set, titled The Rich is Back, contains a selection of eyeshadows, a mascara, a cheek powder and a lip gloss. Though Williamson prefers a more natural look at his shows, the range of shades chosen for the Benefit kit allows for both a casual and daring look.

In seeking inspiration for the makeup kit, Matthew Williamson explored his print archive and chose vibrant shades reminiscent of ’70s cocktail parties and hedonistic discos. “This high-octane makeup kit encapsulates some of my favorite iconic prints and the fun-loving, light-hearted spirit of the Benefit girl,” Williamson said via press release. The designer, who is widely know for his obsession with colour, chose a bright kaleidoscope print with peacock feathers and pink flowers for the makeup kit’s packaging.
