Fashion news: Michael Kors’ big honours, a model diet with extra barbecue and Canadian jewels in Vogue

MICHAEL KORS Spring 2010. Photography by Peter Stigter

Michael Kors had ample reason to celebrate St. Patty’s Day on Wednesday, changing his Facebook status to,”Wow! What a St. Patricks Day!! Found out that I am receiving the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award. Truly amazing! Also, Style.com named my Fall 2010 Collection one of the world’s top ten collections. Quite a day!!!” [Michael Kors Facebook.com]

Karl Lagerfeld has an interesting theory about porn’s effect on crime rates. He told Bruce LaBruce in Vice: “Frustration is the mother of crime, and so there would be much more crime without prostitutes and porn movies…[but] I personally only like high-class escorts. I don’t like sleeping with people I really love. I don’t want to sleep with them because sex cannot last, but affection can last forever. I think this is healthy. And for the way the rich live, this is possible. But the other world, I think they need porn.” [Vogue UK] Read the rest of this entry »

Fashion news: Liam Gallagher to do womenswear, Mark Fast parties with the Queen and John Varvatos’ musical funhouse

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher is all set to launch a womenswear line, under his label, Pretty Green, which already has a men’s range. Oh my. [The Cut]

Actually, let’s let Miss J tackle this one with a quote on celeb lines: “My biggest problem is if you’re going to hire a celebrity to design a line and if they don’t know what they are doing, then they need to hire the right person to sketch and oversee the line. It’s an insult to the fashion industry for people who have studied this craft, researched it, traveled the world looking for inspiration compared to someone who just pulls something out of their closet and changes the color.” [PopEater] Read the rest of this entry »

The great secret: Tommy Ton got punked by Riccardo Tisci

Prankster Riccardo Tisci. Photography by Peter Stigter

Well that was a big letdown. The “CRAZY!!!!” secret Tommy Ton was privy to was apparently nothing more than a prank by Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci. According to Ton’s Twitter feed “Guessing game is over. My source and I are the victim of a good prank played by Mr. Tisci himself. He got us good :(,”

At least we can stop waiting around for the other shoe to drop. But we still wonder what the fake secret was! Thoughts? Faux rumour and innuendo in the comments, please. [@JakandJilBlog, via The Cut]

Karl Lagerfeld: Not going anywhere

Photography by Peter Stigter

As we suspected, the resurfaced rumours about Alber Elbaz taking over for Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel are untrue. The company released the following statement:

Please note that Karl Lagerfeld is the Creative Designer of CHANEL and has a long-term contract with the company. Replacing him is not an issue.

Fashionista also points to a Tommy Ton tweet that watching the Style.com vids from Paris Fashion Week should give us a clue. Thoughts? Theories? Tell us in the comments

Fashion news: The Alber-to-replace-Lagerfeld rumour pops up again, a Karl salad, Peter Nygård drops suit against the CBC and more

Photography by Peter Stigter

Since street style photog Tommy Ton tweeted “I received some news tonight that is going to SHAKE the fashion world in the next two days. CRAZY!!!!” during Paris Fashion week, we have been going crazy awaiting the news. Word on the street is that Karl Lagerfeld’s turn at Chanel is coming to an end, and that he will be passing the baton to Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz. We’ve heard this before, so take this rumour with a big grain of salt. [Grazia AU]

In other Lagerfeld news, he will have an Alaskan king crab salad named after him at Paris’ La Giola restaurant. [WWD]

Madonna’s new fashion brand status opens up the world of collaboration (and world domination at this point). After signing a deal last week that will enable the material girl’s brand, MG Icon, to have hands in multiple existing brands as well as to start new ones, news comes today of the first partnership between Madonna and Dolce & Gabbana–sunglasses.   [The Cut] Read the rest of this entry »

Fashion news: Gaga’s on the Telephone in a bedazzed bikini, the Hilfiger/Axl fight and Steve Madden for Madonna for Macy’s

The video for Lady Gaga’s “Telephone,” featuring Beyoncé is out. In it, Gaga wears a gigantic black and white striped jacket and a bedazzled G-string bikini–in prison. Beyoncé’s outfits include a yellow latex dress with matching cowboy hat (and eyeshadow!). There’s more, obviously.

Model-turned-filmmaker Rie Rasmussen has beef with Terry Richardson and his approach to photography: “He takes girls who are young, manipulates them to take their clothes off and takes pictures of them they will be ashamed of.” Rasumssen ran into Richardson at a party and told him the same thing, in so many words; ”I told him what you do is completely degrading to women. I hope you know you only [bleep] girls because you have a camera, lots of fashion contacts and get your pictures in Vogue.” [The Cut]

Steve Madden is apparently going to create the shoes for Madonna’s Material Girl collection for Macy’s. [WWD]

After abruptly shutting down shops at the beginning of the year, Yohji Yamamo has announced that the company will have a men’s fashion show in Tokyo on April 1. The collection itself is still in the works. [Daily Front Row] Read the rest of this entry »

Fashion news: Burkas on the runway, glaciers at Chanel and Amy Winehouse for Fred Perry

Amy Winehouse is set to design for Fred Perry. Apparently she’s always been a huge fan, but…seriously Amy Winehouse is designing a collection for Fred Perry? Anyway, it hits stores in October. [Vogue UK]

Chanel had a 265-tonne man-made glacier shipped from Sweden, but you can’t import water into France, so they had to ship it back after the show. [The Cut] Read the rest of this entry »
