They said/We said: Kate Moss battles good and evil (like, really evil!) in a new W photoshoot

Comments

Call an exorcist, quick! Kate Moss looks like you’ve never seen her before in a hair-raising portrayal of “good and evil” on two covers of W magazine, and we’ve been in an endless loop of scared yet captivated since seeing them.

Shot by Steven Klein and styled by Edward Enniful, W’s Will Self describes “Evil Moss,” who dons black leather and devil horns (potential Halloween costume idea?) as having lips that are “no rosebud but a crushed carnation, her cheekbones somehow performing the alien accomplishment of curving down to below its petals.”  Uh, sexy? Hello, kaleidoscopic prints: Mary Katrantzou is coming to Topshop!

Comments

What winter blues? Visions of spring just got a little bit more vibrant with the announcement of the Bay presenting Mary Katrantzou for Topshop this March at their Yorkdale Mall location!

Dare we dream to get our paws on the designer’s signature porcelain bowl-inspired skirts? You bet! The 10-piece spring capsule collection will be reminiscent of the surreal style we saw for fall, while keeping true to the Topshop girl’s aesthetic.  And with prices ranging from $120–630, a Jason Wu for Target–paced shelf clearer is certainly likely. Reynard Li + Jeremy Laing Present: A process

Comments

View all films in the series »

This week, we’re taking a bit of a different spin on the series by turning the lens on the action behind the scenes. In this film, Director Reynard Li visits Toronto’s golden boy Jeremy Laing in the comfort of his studio for a peek at how he goes about creating his wears. The result? As hazily easy breezy as one of Laing’s draped-to-perfect dresses.

They said/We said: Could Blue Ivy Carter be the next fashion mogul?

Comments

Photography by Kevin Mazur/Getty Images

Blue Ivy Carter was destined for greatness when she was a mere twinkle in Jay-Z’s eye, but no one expected she’d become a fashion mogul less than a month after her birth.

The couple has filed an application to trademark their offspring’s name (the real name, though we’d prefer Babeyoncé) to create a line of fancy baby gear including strollers, diaper bags, and cosmetics—because even babies need makeup nowadays.

Of course, there is the chance that the couple intends to protect the little one’s name. Already, the responsible, tabloid-reading workers at the trademark office have shut down two requests for the names “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” and “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV”—not to mention the new strain of marijuana or countless martinis named after the not-yet-one-month-old hip-hop princess.

No wonder the newest generation of celebrities is turning into Lindsay Lohan act-a-likes! Maybe the couple has the purest of intentions, but considering that Hova already exploited his kid by including a snippet of her cry in his new track “Glory,” we’re inclined to believe some Swarovski-encrusted Blue Ivy strollers are in our future.

Montreal Fashion Week: The top hits from day three including CIN Tailleur, Ça va de soi, and Abol

Comments

Photography by Jimmy Hamelin

Day three was a lull in the Montreal Fashion Week storm. Fashion mavens, it appeared, were saving their most spectacular looks for day four’s finale. Today was a time for investment shopping.

Since I met Cinthya Chalifoux, the scissor whiz behind CIN Tailleur, I’ve enjoyed her feminine approach to made-to-measure. Having learned her trade from an old-school Montreal master tailor Roger Paquin, she’s been carving out a nice little niche for herself, crafting quality, fitted clothing. The short-but-sweet collection she presented in the cocktail lounge totalled about a dozen looks (for both men and women), all of them showcasing a suave English-countryside sophistication in tweed and cashmere, but amped up with black over-the-knee platform boots—for the women, that is.

Stuart Weitzman brings back the Million Dollar Shoe, only cheaper

Comments

What recession? Stuart Weitzman is bringing back the bling with the return of the Million Dollar Shoe, which made its debut on the red carpet at the Oscars back in 2002.

The original shoe was encrusted with a whopping 464 diamonds (no big deal…) but has been revamped into a more affordable dream shoe dubbed The Millionairess. The diamonds have been swapped for Swarovski crystal straps and redesigned with a teardrop detail. Pictured above on mega-model Natalia Vodianova, Weitzman’s latest campaign shows the model and her shoes dressed down á la Calvin Klein ads. Because, hey, what else does one need with shoes like these?
