Last week, Toronto’s Liberty Village played host to the fifth annual Toronto Alternative Arts & Fashion Week (a.k.a. FAT). The five-day event showcased definitely-not-average fashion lines, including
Cristina Sabaiduc’s Romandin with a fall collection crafted from plastic mesh, fabrics strips, hand-dyed fabrics and silicone caulking, Heidi Ackerman‘s avant-garde Russian constructivist-inspired pieces, and London-based Canadian Jasper Garvida‘s impeccable Art Deco collection. Photographer Angela Y. Martin hit FAT to catch some of the best off-the-runway looks.

Perusing the photos from Toronto Fashion Week, I couldn’t help but notice the legion of leg-baring minis packing the venue. This Lovely is bucking the trend with slouchy, menswear-inspired attitude. A banker-stripe button-down, an easy pant and an oversized watch = sartorial sophistication.

By the looks of her outfit, we’re going to go out on a limb and guess that this Lovely’s favourite movie is Risky Business–she’s got the Tom Cruise thing down pat. All that’s missing is an air guitar and a pair of Wayfarers.

We love how classic nautical stripes look a bit tougher when you swap navy for black. It still says spring, but with a slight edge. Dark, opaque hose and flat oxfords keep the short hemline tame, not trashy.
