Edmonton: The mane attraction

The secret weapon behind Edmonton’s best tressed ladies and gents is uber-hairstylist Paulina Truong, who is to Edmonton what Frédéric Fekkai is to New York or Philip B. to L.A. and after 15 remarkable years in the industry (see her work at left), Truong has finally opened her own salon, Blue Gemini Hair Studio (14115-23 Avenue, 780-436-4783, BlueGemini.ca).
Located in the tony Terwillegar district, the contemporary space, designed by Montreal-based design firm Lanvain, is a rich palette of chocolate brown floors, furniture and cabinetry. Custom-made leather chairs in royal blue add a splash of color to the lounge, which provides clients with a space to relax and admire their new look. The salon also has a colour bar where clients can have a coffee while choosing a shade to complement their skin tone. With all the amenities of a five star hotel, you’ll never want to leave! The shelves are stocked with products from Kevin Murphy, a new vegan line from Australia, as well as Kérastase and L’Oréal Professionnel (Truong is their technical ambassador to Edmonton and is a regular at hair shows). Truong and her team of skilled stylists, along with the salon’s inviting atmosphere, are destined to draw legions of devoted women to Blue Gemini for blow-outs, highlights and updos. You could even say it’s in the stars.
